I'm currently feeding my 4month old puppy science diet small bites for puppies. He doesn't seem to like it toooo much and he eats his own feces (he goes in the morning when I'm still asleep)and some people recommended switch of food.

He's a pomeranian. Also I just bought meat tenderizer to sprinkle over his food. Tried last night and caught him still eating his own poo today. I guess maybe give him a few more days.

I would switch his food to something better quality. Try something like Innova Evo. Make sure there is no corn, or by-products in the ingredient list. Same goes with the treats you give him.

Iams is one of the worst foods you can give your pets!!

ANYTHING BUT RAW FOOD DIET, Let me ask you this question do you love your pet? If your dog was a wild dog and killed a chicken to eat it, would it let the chicken lay around for days growing e coli, or salmonella? Probably not. I had a Friend who bought a puppy from a breeder that swore by all raw chicken diet... guess what her puppy almost died. He had septic arthritis at 12 weeks old he had puss in his joints, when it was cultured it came back e coli... the only thing that puppy ever ate at the breeder was raw chicken. The vet said it was the diet since the infection was though out the whole body.

Try switching him To Nutro Puppy. It doesn't have any corn in it, and is made with better quality meat and no animal by-products. As far as eating his own poo, a LOT of puppies do that. You can buy Forbid coprophagia (feces eating) treatment at most pet stores. Plain canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling) is also a natural coprophagia treatment. We gave our lab puppy a half cup a day and he was eating his food and not his poop in no time. If you have a small breed puppy he should probably get 1/8 or 1/4 cup a day of plain pumpkin.

I would go with the Natural Choice brand..or Nutro Max..You could end up spending alot of money on dog food..i know, because i have seven dog all in various stages of life...also, the Natural Balance food is good, especially for dogs with allergies...and if your dog is eating its feces you might want to try something like the Solid Gold Hundn'Flocken..or Wellness..dogs are meat eaters..they need meat protein first, with little to no corn or wheat..Science diet isn't as good as it used to be..and all the vets carry it cause Hills has cornered that market...best of luck

Get him off that C**P ASAP!!! I'd rather you feed him garbage from a dumpster than that stuff! Of COURSE he doesn't like it, it's ALL GRAIN!!! Look at the ingredients! look at some of my other posts on what good food is. or, www.solidgoldhealth.com, www.naturapet.com

Vets tell you to feed S.D. because their college tuitions were paid by S.D., and they have to sell it in their clinics 'till their loans are paid off. If you ask most vets, "Off the Record", they'll tell you the same thing. The ones that disagree with this, obviously missed the "nutrition requirements for the canine" lectures in school.

My puppy loves Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul (long stupid name) but it makes his poop small and hard so clean up is easy. I aslo feed him Innova dry puppy food which is high quality.

My dog does not eat his poop. Uuhhm. Maybe you should feed him chuncks of fresh pineapple to make his poop taste bad. I know a greyhound trainer who does this and he said it works for his dogs.

When my dog was a puppy, I started her on turkey legs. (Mainly because the grocery store had them on sale 19 cents a pound). But many people start puppies off on chicken or pork.

I work at a vet's office and we usually suggest switching the food when the puppies become picky. I would suggest switching to IAM'S Puppy food.

Asking the vet is a good idea, but even better is asking the local breeders [not pet stores!], esp. if they have similar breeds to your own. Or have the same size dogs- which can make a difference. Good luck.

Changing his food won't really fix that. Try ForBid (a food additive), it works.
