The simplest method is to use a length of rope as the triggering device. Pull it to free a slip hook, releasing the spring-loaded arm and sending the projectile on its way. Be safe!

RE:
How do I make a catapult trigger?
It has to made out of wood and it must have springs. No PVC materials or slingshots are allowed. It must be activated by a triggering device, which I don't know how to make. I cannot hold or touch the catapult when I launch the projectile; only the triggering device. Help please!

Alternative materials in construction and the tension-torsion end too... There are several different means to create a trigger...the simplest being cutting the rope, but that *does* lead to issues with repeat useage. Sorry, can't really give you any concrete detail, since doing so can lead to legal troubles for me, depending on your jurisdiction. :D Good Luck!

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/x3C9D
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.

For example you can make 3 rings, 2 fixed to the structure, and 1 fixed to the moving part and in the centre, and a bar through the 3 rings, removing this bar you pull the trigger, but it depends from the design of your "weapon", if you need more specific you can send me e-mail with a sketch of your project maybe that I can help you
Can you use little metal parts??
