I don't want to be swayed by what could simply be 'propaganda' so I'd like to hear from a few muslims themselves. I don't have a problem with religous brainwashed people, but when the leaders who brainwash them have violent intentions, it makes me a bit uneasy.

Nothing is called brain wash my friend, but let me tell you how it goes, its a human nature that you will find 2 ppl of each 10 are intelligent, and another 2 are stupid, while the rest 6 are medium in their IQ, and when you try to apply this to Islam, you will find 8 of every 10 are driven by their leaders ( worldwide fact ), and in the case of Islamic countries things don't go in a brain wash way, but its that the leaders mis-use the teachings of Islam, they also misplace it, and the followers can't figure it out.

For example, it had been quite known in Afghanistan that Radio is not kosher, could you believe that ?

What the world needs is that Muslims should be back to the origins of the religion, its very tolerant and progressive religion with ability to cope with all ages, and stop following stupid or evil leaders, and the westerns, need to stop following the evil mass media machines there too, and start to search things out for themselves.

Thank you.

I am muslim, i have never been taught to hate, but I learned from a young age, that our leaders are corrupt. Many muslims will admit that, educated muslims know that Muslim leaders after 1924 most of them have had their own intention. West is in part of blame for this for the attempts to collonize India, and then Algeria, and then take over Palestine and also the betrayel by Mustafa Kamaal. sorry i just mentioned history that not many people know

"Salaam" (Peace) is the basis for the name "Islam".

If you want to here from Muslims in a nicer environment, try a Muslim comedy tour (currently in Australia - Thrurs in Brisbane; Fri + Sat in Sydney) I saw them in Melbourne.

My first big time to share with Muslims was during a trip to Israel with the "Middle East Peace Initiative". Over 300 from the Oceania region were invited into special places of Christians (Bethlehem, Nazareth, Calvery, etc), Jews (Wailing Wall; David's tomb; holocost museum; synagogs; Tel Aviv University) and Muslims (Aska Mosque, Dome of the Rock, ... no, not Mecca).
It was impressive to hear and share with others from the religions owing their history to Abraham. I flew in with a small group through that went to Amman, Jordon, and spent a bit more time with Palestinians than others.

In my experience, Muslims are a very expresive people when they get to know you.
One of the early examples of this was in the tour company's office. Everyone at a desk used ear pieces for talking on the phone so they are free to make hand gestures while having animated phone conversations.

Isn't hate a natural characteristic of humans?

It follows that muslims are normal when acting hatefully.

Isn't the solution for westerners as well as muslims a personal matter, using faith to take on the character of the living god? Sorry to disappoint those who want to make it more complicated.

Some do, but not all. Just like some christians spread hate (homophobes and the KKK, for example). It's just that Muslim forms of hate have become more popular in the media since Al-Qaeda and 9/11.

*looks in yahoo answer*.....I can only see , muslim this and islam that , Allah is this and Mohamed is that., If you think that Muslim spread hatred about themselves than yes they're spreading hate ..Think about that!

YES other religions spread hatred . Have you seen a muslim saying ' Jesus is a moon god?' or 'Yahweh does not exist" ? No Right? So that means ,Islam is a religion of peace. Got it?

No, just religious fundies of all types. Muslims are not alone....I'd say Christians are just as bad for repressing the Muslims. American foreign policy has repressed them for years. I'd have to say that underdeveloped muslim countries do commit atrocities in regards to human rights, but are not alone.

If you talk about islam than the first thing to read and understand is the Quran and not a video in youtube !

You can read in the Quran chapter 60 verse 8 and 9 :
8 : "Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity."
9 : "It is only as regards those who fought against you on account of religion, and have driven you out of your homes, and helped to drive you out, that Allah forbids you to befriend them. And whosoever will befriend them, then such are the wrong-doers."

If you are talking about Iraq; how about if one day your country will be invaded, lets see what you will do.
