Certainly. At the shop, we recommend 3/4 to 1 pound per person. 16 pounds for 9 people will insure lots of leftovers. Maybe too much. I would consider going smaller, if you can.

I was most disappointed the last time I expected a 17 pound turkey to feed 10 people.

I stocked up on ingredients for a three course meal, readied all the cooking implements and got out the recipes.

Then I put the turkey in my kitchen.

It was a complete disaster. It become evident very early on that the turkey had no idea how to cook for a large group.

The garlic bread was meant to be simply placed in the oven, but the turkey pecked and ate quite a lot of it, then it sat down on the floor. I was expecting to play a minor role showing the turkey where everything was and so forth. Forget that! I had to do everything, even clean up after the turkey shat several times on the kitchen floor.

This advice probably wont be relevant to you. You will have a 16 pounder (not 17 pounds) feeding 9 guests (not 10).

I had an experience somewhat like that of Pastor Sauce above. So I would suggest some other sort of animal.

I used to have a Duroc named Flash, who was quite clever, and capable of performing such duty, but when I asked him to he ran away from home.

Last I'd heard, he had changed his appearance with plastic surgery and taken a new name. I believe he was adopted by a good Christian family,so I don't worry about him, but I do think he was a little high hoofed in his precipitous departure.

Good luck with the beasts at your sup of thanks, one word of warning, cats will perform the service gladly, but their concept of haut cuisine leaves much to be desired.

Absolutely with no problem. Don't forget, there are usually many side dishes with a turkey dinner.

Enjoy the leftover turkey!

it should. knock off about 4 lbs for bones etc. if you put good sides on your table there might even be left overs. we always have green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, corn, mashed potatoes, broccoli and rice casserole, cranberry sauce and more desserts than the law allows
