It is not offensive. The Jews I know do not mind being called Jews-including me.

I've had the same thing happen to me, and I have studied Judaism for 10 years and almost converted. During that whole time, I was never criticized for saying "Jews" and heard Jewish people say it every single day. I don't know where this idea has come from now that you can't say "Jews." I believe it is offensive to say that it is offensive to say Jews! That's an insult to Jews as far as I'm concerned, to suggest that "Jews" is bad. Jews are good. Not bad.

Well, a lady (who was not Jewish) I met once said they don't want to be called Jews. She had lived in several different states. I usually say "Jewish" myself but slipped once and said "Jews," but not when any were present. Guess it's just important to be respectful and ask when in doubt.

Yeah, I've heard people tell me before that 'Jew' is offensive. I disagree with that, though. I think it CAN be offensive if you say it in a context like "That stupid Jew...", but if 'Jew' isn't the correct way to say it, then what is? I don't know what other word you would use.

Shame you were criticized for using the term Jews. I've heard that some prefer "Jewish people" or "Jewish persons," but the Jews I know don't consider "Jew" to be pejorative. They often refer to themselves with the phrase "We Jews..."

What's wrong with "Jews"?

I refer to myself as a "Jew", or "Jewish", and it is fine by me.
The word Jew comes from the Hebrew word "Yehudi", means: of the tribe of Judah (Yehudah). So I can't think of a more exact term...

The only difference between "Jewish" and "Jew" is that "Jew" is a noun and "Jewish" is an adjective.

For some reason "Jewish people" sounds better than "Jews." Nobody should yell at you though, that's stupid.

Jews. I don't think it was the name, but probably what you said along with them, or about them. So what else did you say when you got yelled at?

Ooo I don't know...Yiddish, Children of Israel, hey there folks, ...what was wrong with Jewish anyways? They call me Pagan and I don't take offense.

If they yelled at you, who cares what they want to be called? That was rude of them.
