Yikes. Yeah, the cops can't do anything, but your credit card companies should be doing something about it. I had my numbers ripped off me and someone made a $1500 purchase over in Ireland (I live in Canada). I asked my credit card company about it and they took it right off.

Many credit card companies also calls you if they notice any abnormal purchases on your account as well. If I were you, I'd give them a call back and tell them that if they don't have a policy for stolen credit cards protecting their customers, you want out.

If you have someone that has complete trust in you ask them if they will co-sign a small loan for you but don't screw them make sure you pay it off. If they trusted you once with no problems they will trust you again. You could even sign over your car as help to a bank. But make sure you write a letter to your credit card company telling them what happened and what is on the bill that you didn't buy because in small print they don't have to look into your problem unless they receive it. And keep copies of everything you do and when you did it in case of questions and proof of what you did. If you still have your papers about your request for the card look at them because it might tell you that you are not liable for this.

If you are serious, then call your redit card companies, most of them have fraud protection, if you were making this up but really do need money log to www.prosper.com You can ask for a loan from peopel just like you and me, most peopel give 50.00 each but your loan request is typically for more then 1,000 so you need more people to bid on you, go to the site and read all about it, you have 3 years to pay it back if you do get fully funded.

Know what you are doing before you do it. I'd highly recommend you read some of the articles at http://www.hammocksurvivalguide.com/
Look at debt relief and debt consolidation. There is some really good advice there. If you qualify, it might make life a lot easier for you.
