Ok, now that I've got that over with...

Which dog is the best fighting dog in the world, both pound for pound and overall?

American Pitbull Terrier, Rottweiler, Doberman, German Shepherd, Bull Terrier, Tosa, Fila, Dogo, Cane Corso, Presa Canario, Akbash, Owtcharka, Great Pyrenees, other?

And here's a great link for anyone with a curiousity about dogs:

To all of those that said "pitbulls", check out the link below:

I think that pound for pound, an American Pit Bull Terrier is the best fighting dog in the world, but if you were to put one up against a much larger dog, well....

What are they fighting? Other dogs? Intruders? Predators?

The only reason I ask is because I'm wondering why you included three Livestock Guard Dog breeds in there.

Of the ones you listed:

People: Fila Brasileiro and Cane Corso most likely. Their massive body structure gives them a distinct advantage against humans. The Fila would win overall because of its heritage and historical purpose.

Dogs: Pit Bull terrier would probably be the winner here. Bred for dog fighting, with the powerful jaws and musculature needed to hold their own against other dogs (who are more agile than humans). I think their agility would give them an advantage over the Tosa, but I don't know enough about Tosas to be sure.

Predators: Because of the instincts that have been bred into them, the LGDs are more likely to go after predators than the other breeds, which would give them the advantage. Of the breeds mentioned, the Owtcharka probably has the most aggressive temperament with a little more size behind it than the Akbash. The Pyr is more of an "outweigh and outlast" sort of defender.

The link does work if you remove the final full stop at the end of the URL. This site does not give any information as to the owner, no address and not even the country of origin. The people are hiding behind various anonymous email addresses. They use one which is registered in (BG) which I think is belgium, but that again a webmail address which could be registered from anywhere. Even so, if this site were reported, authorities could trace the originator and take action, or at least get the site taken down. However, it would probably just pop up again somewhere else. It is illegal, the web makes tacing harder. ETA: Oh, Ok,. thanks to the poster above, I see this is in Serbia so probably not a country where this is even illegal. :-( ETA: The Best WIth Dogs - quote "Dog fighting under the proper, caring management is not illegal or unethical." WTF are you on about??? Dog fighting is illegal in all modern CIVILISED countries, are you from the back of beyond where crime rules? Or just crazy? There is NOTHING "caring" about pitting two animals against each other for the sake of sport, when those animals would by nature rather avoid each other than fight! Ö

now it depends on what kind of dog your looking at a newer breed or an older breed. pit bulls are newer and the American bull dog is very old and has fighting in the blood. most the dogs you have listed are not good fighting dogs the ones you have listed that may be good fighting dogs are tosa fila and the pit bull. I'm not sure about the fila and the owtcharka but they are not know fighting.

*sighs* It's a pitbull it was bred to be a fighting dog, that's why they have such a bad rep. Great Pyrenees isn't even CLOSE to being a good fighting dog, I own one her name is Belle she is so sweet, but I guess that could just be my dog. Well this question does upset me (but that is just my instinct) but I guess curiosity is curiosity...

I would say it depends on the extent to which they are trained. I've seen some pretty tough dogs of all kinds. Personally, I think Pits are among the top 3. Just my opinion. C-ya!
