In the late 1800s and early 1900s, people from the Ukraine emigrated to the Prairies in order to take advantage of very cheap farm land. The countryside there was very similar to the Steppes, where they lived and farmed.

Some people simply like the style of living there or maybe the cost of living. It really depends what part of Canada though. It is pretty big. The reasons vary depending on the place in Canada.

I know some illegals form other countries do so they can come back after the time period expires and become a US citizen easier.
