A good number of my friends claim that their boyfriends or girlfriends are also their best friends. I'm not sure if this is as sweet and endearing as it's meant to be... Something about it rubs me the wrong way, but I'm having a hard time defining exactly why. What do you think?

It makes me feel weird too...I agree that my bf is one of my best friends, but if i was to tell him the things i tell my real best friend, he'd flip. I understand where you're coming from.

Then again, look at it this way~what happens when best friends fall in love? That weirds me out too...I could neverbe in a relationship with my best friend, because they know everything about me. There would be no mystery left! Isnt part of falling in love getting to know someone?

It rubs you the wrong way because after they are done going out and one dumps the other they arent as good as 'best friends.' I am best friends with a guy who's liked me for 3 or 4 years. The only thing I can say is, if it's that good a friend, one that you can hang out without feeling uncomfortable and knowing a relationship can't ruin the friendship, its a best friend.

Yes, it is okay to be best friends - in fact it is optimal to have it this way. If we treated our mates the way we do our friends, we'd have much happier lives and longer relationships. You should be able to count on your mate more than a friend. This relationship works best and is most satisfying when you know that you are loved and accepted, encouraged and uplifted, safe and important to the other -just like a healthy friendship. You can tell your real thoughts and secrets and not be afraid of being rejected. Hope this helps.

entrapment's are figured into relationships so that there are no free time to associate with anyone else. this is a way that causes a great deal of stress for people who want friends for the facts that some have better ideas and opinions to various things than a one sided opinionated boy friends has, you express this in your question and you have the rights to have more thoughts than just the one that will always be the answer that you can predict because of the relationship involved. in general all things are going to be entrapment's to be worked out and how to not get cornered by one person. trust is built slowly, personal lives are at stack in privicies and who knows your secrets

Not only is it okay, but it's the way it should be - that is, if it's a lasting relationship. However, if the relationship doesn't last and you break up, then you've not only lost your boyfriend/girlfriend, but also your best friend, the person who you would normally turn to when you're hurting. It's kind of a double-edged sword.

if you had a boyfriend that you truely loved you would not be asking that question......... being in a relationsip is more than just being involved physically it is also being able to trust the person wit your life and doing so you should be able to confide in the person as you would do your best friend. If you love him, no matter ow much you say your best friend will always be your best friend, your boyfriend/girlfriend will become your best friend eventually. Trust me its true

I believe that this is the best way to go, or at least for me. With your best bud you can be yourself and relax. You can talk about anything. My bf is my best friend and I think that is what makes our relationship so strong. I can tell him anything and he likewise. Its more than just the kisses to me.
