Dog sneeze: Every civilization throughout history has looked for easy and comforting explanations for what they did not understand.
Surely you jest?

bbjones: Why am I not surprised that you're gullible enough to think he supports a family with 7 (!!) children on $24,000 annually?

Go to the caves in France where mans first cave paintings are. There you will find mans first cathedral. When you have let go of the resentments you have toward relgion.Step back and take an honest look. You will realize that churches are full of imperfect people. At least there trying to get better. Who is in new orleans right now cleaning mold off walls and putting up sheet rock? WHo is in darfur digging wells? Who is building hospitals in the third world? Money makes the world go around I wish it didnt but it does and legitamate churches temples and mosks use that money for allot of good things if you want to find out ask. Some churches Dont of course but Your putting all religion into one basket and thats not fair. There are fewer bad apple if you take an honest unbiased look.

It would not be as large as it is.

If I'm not mistaken Robert Schuller started off with an abandoned Drive In Movie Theater and patrons used to listen in their cars using the system. He now has built the Crystal Cathederal.

Billy Graham's organization is huge. World Wide Films, his media arm, once occupied a major complex in Burbank.

The Catholic Church, of course, is the premier franchise and can put a Diosese down like McDonald's opens up a restaraunt.

Religion exists in every culture with or without any monetary system involved. Did you take sociology or anthropology in school?

I've been to Malawi, Africa which is the third poorest country in the world. The average Malawian makes a little more than 200 dollars a year. They have quite vibrant forms of Charismatic Christianity that are common throughout the country. It certainly does not rely on money, nor do they. It is still a barder economy.

Yup. Religions didn't form BECAUSE of politics and greed. They were used BY those powers for others ends, but thats not what made them crop up to begin with.

People came up with an idea of god because the world was a scary place. A god helped them to make sense of things. To give them hope. People still need those things and religion is the most basic way to have that need fulfilled.

I think so

Religion is a way for people to make since of the world.

that need will still be around if there was no money in it.

Though if there was no money it things would look alot different then they are now with church being big business.

Yes,

Religion is an organized system of beliefs that generally seeks to understand purpose, meaning, goals, and methods of spiritual things. These spiritual things can be God, people in relation to God, salvation, after life, purpose of life, order of the cosmos, etc.

Yes, releigion has been here since the dawn of time. Pagan religions thrive today without the organization and money that Christianity has. Whether it be Christian, pagan, or some other religion, religion will always be with us.

I am Christian, and where I go to Church we are Independent Baptists, and collecting money is the least of our worries, we are a family and we take care of the church as a family, if someone gets sick, people pitch in time and money if need be, but we go to this church to worship God, not collect money, and most other churches are the same way......I don't know who or what churches you are referring to but as a rule I don't think that's what worshipping God is about.

I am a volunteer Sunday School Superintendent at my church. I attend regular business meetings and know where the money is spent.
My Pastor collects no pay, neither does anyone at my church. We give our money to the needy in our community.
Evil forces have been trying to destroy the church for thousands of years.
