I just noticed the other day that my dog as a bluish cloud that has formed in the bottom of his eye. He has black eyes so it not really noticable unless the light catches it just right. It is under the pupil and in the iris part of his eye. I noticed a much smaller spot in the other eye. The whites of his eyes are pink too. I took him to the vet and she didn't give a diagnosis or treatment but said that the cloud is likely from white blood cells that have collected there from some reason. She didn't see any scratches. She said to take him to a pet opthamologist, which I will. Has this happened to anyone else's dog? Do you know what it could be? Could it be from and old scratch? Could allergies do this? He does sneeze a lot. I am so worried about him!

He just turned 2 in October. The vet didn't really give us any definate answers after $70.. I wish she would have let us try antibiotic just in case. The nearest opthamologist is an hour and a half away! I will take him though. I hate to think he may go blind. I wish there was something I could do. It is sad that a regular vet can't give more answers.

It could be glaucoma depending on his age. Also, it could be some kind of ulcer. Take him to the ophthalmologist ASAP!
I had a friend who's dog's eye literally exploded from an ulcer. The dog later died from infection.

We have had something similar going on with one of our pooches who is only three. I was convinced that it was a scratch that got infected and the vet did prescribe antibiotics for two weeks that we put into his eyes. The vet was adamant that it wasn't from a cut. But, the cloudiness has returned and I still think it is a cut or something. We have no access to a dog opthamologist but if we did I'd be over there in a flash. If your dofg is older, however, it could be cataracts as others have said. And, it most certainly could be allergies too if he has any discharge around the eyes. Good luck. Don't you wish they could talk to us and tell us what's wrong?

He could have had an injury to his eye or scratch on his eye. Take him to another vet and get some answers. She is young to have cataracts but my guess it is from an injury. If that is what it is, she will probably go blind in that eye in time. Any good vet could tell you w/o sending you to an ophthalmologist.
Good luck.

How old is the dog? The description sounds like cataracts. The redness could be a simple allergy.
However, I always follow the vet's direction.
Hope he does well! It's terrible to fret over one's pets. I know!

Hmmm, if your dog is an older gentlemen (yes I know how weird that sounds) He could have cataracts, most dogs get them when they are older you should take him to an opthamologist. This hasn't happened to any of my dogs though (but that doesn't mean it's uncommon) Good Luck with him.

If it relatively is whitish blue then it ought to be a cataract - animals/people can get those at any age. Pugs in many circumstances have runny eyes i think of - could be a blocked tear duct - use heat water and rub down the area to attempt to get it to unblock. No progression, then see the vet.

Sounds like a cataract to me. But your best bet is to ask your vet. Very few do cataract surgery on the animal, but you might get lucky and find one that does.

I am thinking cataracts. Is the dog older? Bless his heart. We all get older. It makes me smile to see someone on here knows when to take the dog to the vets.
Be well. Pet him for me.
