lately when i walk for more than say ten minutes that i have a pain in my left shin, muscular as opposed to bone, it is like a lactic burn you might get in the gym. i find that it is increasingly difficult to bend my foot up and find myself 'slapping' my foot down with each step as opposed to 'rolling' from heal to toe. i am 37 and otherwise in pretty good shape. any ideas before i go see the doc

i had pain in my legs (muscle) and when i went to the doctor they told me it was a circulation problem, the pain was very bad, i got it when i walked an then all night long when i was resting, i used to rub ointment on my legs to stop the pain, now i don't know if you are a smoker, i was, an when i quit (ayear ago) the pains stopped, good luck to you.

The symptoms you have described sound like shin splints which are essentially micro muscle tears of the anterior muscle group of the leg. Generally these pains are secondary to overuse and are of no real medical concern. Ice the part several times daily and take either Advil or Aleve for relief daily for two weeks following meals.
A circulatory problem presents itself in the back or posterior aspect of the leg, not the front. Infection causes swelling and warmth and severe pain. A blood clot or DVT is also found in the back of the leg with pinpoint tenderness on direct palpation.

I understand you slapping your foot down to try to alleviate to pain but that may even add to your problem. Go to the doctor, there may be an underlying problem or even a simple explanation and cure!

probably shin splints, maybe a torn or stretched ligiment or tendon, maybe a pinched nerve in your lower lumbar region or perhaps the beginning of a cancer. Wait till the thing infects or festers and then you wil l know for sure.
