The God of the Bible allows slavery, including selling your own daughter as a sex slave (Exodus 21:1-11), child abuse (Judges 11:29-40 and Isaiah 13:16), and bashing babies against rocks (Hosea 13:16 & Psalms 137:9).
Murder, rape, pillage, plunder, slavery, and child abuse can not be justified by saying that some god says it’s OK
. If more people would actually sit down and read the Bible there would be a lot more atheists like myself.
why do godbotherers keep trying to persuade me to join a religion that condones such barbaric acts?????????.....

And just in case you are thinking that the evil and immoral laws of the Old Testament are no longer in effect, perhaps you should read where Jesus makes it perfectly clear: "It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid." (Luke 16:17 NAB)

becaue they don't read their own religious book. i was raised christian (both fortunately and unfortunately), but once i started researching it, i had to convert to something else. i'm not an atheist because i do believe in a higher power, but i just couldn't follow a religion whose book is so full of contradictions.
as for god being a different god in each testament, i was taught growing up that god is the same and has been for all time. how can he be different, then? once again, a contradiction in the religion itself. also, if it's a monotheistic religion, how can they have the trinity? my last count that made three, making it a polytheistic religion. hmm... there is more, but i don't have the room for it.
btw, the bible not only condones owning slaves, but beating them to death as well. Exodus 21:20 "When a man beats his male or female slave with a club, so that the slave dies then and there, the victim shall be avenged; but if he survives a day or two then he must not be avenged, because he is my property."
the religion is also gender biased and if the bible were actually to be truly read for what it was instead of someone saying, "well, it says THIS, but it means THAT", women would be considered property (in some denominations they still are) and would have no rights. why be part of something like that? i have a brain, i know how to think just as well as any man. maybe better than some because i don't follow something blindly without doing my homework on it first.

Exodus 21:1-11 - This was common practice at the time amongste the various nations. God gave protection and rights which were not otherwise there.
Judges 11:29-40 - Jephthah and his daughter took vows made to God seriously. If they had spoken to a priest, there may have been another solution (such as substitutionary sacrifice).
Isaiah 13:16 - This was prophecy and, as such, is at least in part, is "picture language" (if a bit gruesome). The purpose of prophecy like this is to persuade a nation to change its ways, as happened when Jonah prophesied to Ninevah.
Hosea 13:16 - This was a prophecy of what may happen to Samaria as a consequence of their actions. It does not signify God wanted this to happen. It is like saying to a child that runs out into the street "you will get knocked over by a car." This is not to say that the speaker wants the child to be knocked over, but that this is a consequence of the childs behaviour.
Psalms 137:9 - These are the angry words of an oppressed people, not the words of God.
There is no teaching of Christ or His Apostles that justifies Christians being violent. Quite the opposite, in fact. We must only retaliate with love and kindness. Read The Sermon on the Mount

maid angela, refers to the new and old testament, surely you should use the original one, not that you will ever find an original copy, as we know, they are all contrived to make the currant batch of believers think its all true. If the old book was right, according to older followers, then why was a new one made? because people like hamster p asked too many questions, testing its validity, its because of these changes that we know religion is made up. If it was true, we would be taught from the very first issue, not the 467th

Atheist, it's time you learned to properly interpret the word of God.
Your bible citation is taken out of context, and it actually means the opposite of what you think it does.
The old law ... every statute, ordinance, and commandment ... every jot and tittle ... expired when we received the new covenant from Christ.
The old testament times were noteworthy in that they were a literal hell on earth. Totally devoid of God's grace, and without doubt ruled only by Satan, with all of mankind as his powerless and unwitting slaves.
God didn't condone any of this. He simply confirmed the decrepit state of affairs through his scripture, so men of faith could later understand exactly what was happening, and why.
God sent his son to free mankind from slavery to Satan, sin, and death. He did. And the world has never been the same.

It's behavior towards these people that God is speaking of.
We do it to this day.
If you sell yourself to the bank to buy a house they bank owns your life for 30 years, here in the Bible it says the bank has to set you free after 6 years (this, by the way, is where we get our Bankruptcy laws from, in every 7th year a man is allowed to petition for redress from debts).
If you default, the banks takes more than the house in some instances. They are entitled to back payments and interest.
The bank ever agreed to become your partner and never once did the Bank tell you on demand you had to make a room available to the Bank, nor did the Bank tell you you had to give a key and unlimtied access.
To this day parents, those those of Jon Binet, put their children into World Class Gymnastics, Olympic competitions, beauty contests and entertinament endevors.
Do you think a six year old baby has a say in if and for who they do a TV commercial for!
Remember the Twilight Zone movie in which two little Vietnamese kids lost their heads.
Judges 11 is probably metaphorical, it's about the "Children of ISrael" against the "Children of Ammom"
Me thinks you protest too much here!
Isaiah is about the Revelation the great war between good and evil.
I don't recall America telling the people of Hiroshima to evacuate their children a day before we dropped the bomb.
I don't recall the people who blew up the Federal Building in Oklahma City telling people to keep their kids home
I don't recall those who did 9-11 telling people not to bring their kids to work or take them on airplanes
I do recall science making Thalidomide and children being born without hands and legs thanks to medical science.
I do recall psychiatry slicing out pieces of the brain to cure mental illness.
Hosea is similar, it's about war and rebellion.
Pslams is metaphorical talking about the Daughter of Babylon
Uncle Sam killed a lot of young boys in France, Germany, Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Hitler was using 14 year olds to fight at the end of WWII
We see a lot of young boys in Palestine holding up AK47s.

Anykind of music that degrades a group of people, that glorifies violence or breaking the law. There is not a "type" per se, there is good rap, good heavy metal, good country, etc. However, no matter how great the rymth is if the lyrics degrades women, men, a race, etc or glorifies violence, it is the wrong kind of music to listen to. That is why parents even through they might not like the kind of music their children listen to, must listen to the song at least 1 time to decide if the music degrades or glorifies if so, get rid of it and if not, even through you do not like it leave it in your child's possession.

Only if you do not know the rest of the story.
In Israelite society a person who became poor could sell himself or his children into slavery to care for his indebtedness. Exodus 21:1-11 Where does the Bible say sex slave?
*******
Jephtah’s daughter was offered to work in Jehovah’s temple. It was a real sacrifice on the part of both Jephthah and his daughter, for he had no other child. (Jg 11:34) Therefore no descendant of his would carry on his name and his inheritance in Israel. Jephthah’s daughter was his only hope for this. She wept, not over her death, but over her “virginity,” for it was the desire of every Israelite man and woman to have children and to keep the family name and inheritance alive. (Jg 11:37, 38) Barrenness was a calamity. But Jephthah’s daughter “never had relations with a man.” Had these words applied only to the time prior to the carrying out of the vow, they would have been superfluous, for she is specifically said to have been a virgin. That the statement has reference to the fulfilling of the vow is shown in that it follows the expression, “He carried out his vow that he had made toward her.” Actually, the record is pointing out that also after the vow was carried out she maintained her virginity.—Jg 11:39;

Isaiah 13:16 Judgment against Babylon. Which power will Jehovah use to bring about the fall of Babylon? Some 200 years ahead of time, Jehovah reveals the answer: “Here I am arousing against them the Medes, who account silver itself as nothing and who, as respects gold, take no delight in it. And their bows will dash even young men to pieces. And the fruitage of the belly they will not pity; for sons their eye will not feel sorry. And Babylon, the decoration of kingdoms, the beauty of the pride of the Chaldeans, must become as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.” (Isaiah 13:17-19) Magnificent Babylon will fall, and Jehovah’s instrument for bringing this about will be armies from the distant, mountainous country of Media.

The inhabitants of Samaria did not walk in God’s righteous ways. Consequently, they would have to pay a price for their sin and lack of faith in Jehovah. It was foretold: “Samaria will be held guilty, for she is actually rebellious against her God. By the sword they will fall. Their own children will be dashed to pieces, and their pregnant women themselves will be ripped up.” (Hosea 13:16) Historical records show that the Assyrians, who conquered Samaria, were capable of such dreadful atrocities.
