I prefer an outside tree and decorate it for the birds and other creatures. But as this is not always possible I would then get a small potted tree or even a nice rosemary bush to use as a tree. I would then decorate it with stars, moons and only natural and handmade decorations.

I have a potted Norfolk Island Pine that I got in '98 or so. It was about 2 1/2 feet tall and was great for my apartment at the time.
The sucker is now at least 6' tall, and it's a good thing we're now in a house where it can own the corner of the spare bedroom! I will probably put some lights on it and some ornaments.
We are also getting an artificial tree for the living room, but since we go to my mom's for Christmas, we won't get a cut tree down here. There will be a cut tree at Mom's, and after the holidays it's mulched by way of a municipal program so it is returned to the earth.

Myself I always have a stand that needs thinning somewhere, or a tree that needs to be pruned back to a single top, so I usually have a cut tree, but a tree-in-a-pot is a nice idea. The one thing you should do is try and plant represenatives of different species, especially native ones, if you can. My mistake years ago was just setting out 2 or 3 varieties and I have been working since to reduce them and plant other kinds, evergreens and decidous. But if you are carrying on about the pagan thing, anything that involves dancing naked around a tree you might better do indoors, especially if you live in a colder climate, however your neighbors might not agree with me :))

I think it is sad to cut down a tree just for a short celebration, so I would go with and artificial tree, or your idea of a small potted tree that can be planted after the season

I don't decorate a tree at all. I have a log that I have holes drilled in that fit votive candle cups and use it as my Yule Log. Other than that I do drape lights around the windows and use greenery around my hearth. The tree sounds like a Good Idea, it just isn't my taste.
And to the pagans need Jesus in their lonely lives woman, No I don't. I have my Significant other for companionship and the Goddess and God as my spiritual companions.

Good idea. (I'm not strictly a pagan, so I hope you don't mind me commenting. I go to sweat lodges, so that's how some refer to me. I take it as a compliment).
I do the same... usually plant a seedling in the spring (in a pot) and keep for a couple of years to make it as hardy as possible. I live in Northern Canada, so any bit helps.
Enjoy winter solstice. When we have our Full Moon Ceremony, I'll think of you and your tree! ~ Andrea

I like cut trees (not a Pagan but I have been!) but whatever, the smell of a fir tree is divine! Just make sure it's not treated with chemicals. And I love decorating with natural things e.g. cinnamon, candles, decorated pine cones.
Merry Yule!

I love your idea! I must have an artificial tree because my feline familiars think all plants are for eating.

Good idea. You guys are lucky you can have live trees for Xmas. It's too hot here, we can only have artificial ones.
