Sure, why not? They are a domesticated dog and make wonderful family pets! Any dog is trainable and every dog should be a house dog. Have fun.

He was probably training for obedience trials. That is a standard method, to insure the dog stops what ever and immediately comes on command. Rotts are a very massive breed and there is a big difference between force and inhumane treatment. Why did people think he was a danger to the other dogs? Just curious if the dog was after the other dogs or was it because it was a Rott. Hate to say it but it was probably one of the best trained in the park. Edit: If it bothers you then ask him to use another area. He needs to train with those distractions. I would bet if you ask him to explain his methods during a session break he would be happy to. I can tell you I have trained for 30 years, and have never had a dog injured by a loose lead. My guys can be 50 feet away, with a TBone steak in their mouth, with one command they will be at my side in a sit in about 30 seconds off lead. Most folks want a Rott that well trained. Maybe he was a little to agressive, but I would have to witness it to judge him.

Rottweilers can be great family dogs if raised, trained and socialized properly. They are a powerful breed, so obedience training is a must!!!

Getting the dog spayed or neutered will also help to "calm" the dog and make training the dog easier, as well as lessen any potential aggression that may occur.

I highly suggest checking out http://www.friendsofanimals.org for cheap spay/neuter certificates that you can use at your local vet office.

Sure. And having it as a house dog where it's accustomed to interacting with people and gets a lot of attention is a good thing for any dog.

However, they can be quite territorial, so do be careful about others being in the house. Also be quite firm if others show physical affection with you. A big hug CAN be misterpreted as an attack on your person. It can also arouse jealousy in the dog. Just let it know who is boss, and you should be fine.

Enjoy! Terrific dogs. We've had two, but now we pretty much stick with german shepherds.

Of course you can! My sister use to breed rottweilers and they were 2 of the best dogs I have ever seen. Azia (the mother) was so sweet and well-mannered, acted more like a little lap dog. Zeus (father) was a gentle giant, like a big teddy bear. As long as they aren't trained to be aggressive, rotts can be an awesome breed to have!

Yes, rottweilers have a bad rep. but it is completly not fair. Some of the most gental and caring dogs I've seen are Rotts. It all comes down to how you train them, any dog can be agressive if rasied poorly. I had a Rott and it was a big baby its entire life, and he was a house dog all his life.

My ex had a Rottweiler, she was already over a year old when my daughter and I met her. She was a beautiful dog, very friendly. I had no problems with her in the house, and she wasn't mean at all. I missed her more than my ex.

Our rescue has taken in many rotts over the years and never had a "bad one". They are normally gentle giants unless someone has so abused them to make them aggressive.

Highly intelligent and trainable. They want to please! They normally love being around people and kids. Did not indicate how old your dog is but they are never too old to learn.

Be consistant with your words/commands. Short and concise. I train with treats and lots of praise!!! A mature dog housetrains easily as can hold longer. But you have to take the time to spend out in yard with the dog and be there to praise when it does its business. They learn quick. They do need lots of exercise and room to roam. Yes, the big babies can knock things around so put up the fragile stuff from low tables.

Remember, it is not the breed that is a screw-up, it is the screwed up owners that didn't take the time.

Yes great dogs a bit stubborn but remember to never use your hands as a threat, when potty training use a rolled up newspaper or any type of training really never want to use your hands cuz they will think your hands are hurtful to them. This could cause them to be aggressive you don't want that they are very intellegent animals and the more consistant you are with your expectations the better they understand you ..

A good friend of ours had a Rottweiler, and it was the best house dog I-ve ever seen. I-ve heard the same elsewhere.
