The Church he founded is called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. Now it is refered to as LDS or as Mormons. Members of the LDS church DO NOT worship Joseph Smith. We Worship Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father (God).
Joseph Smith was the first modern day prophet of the church. We believe that through divine revelation, he restored the ancient Church of Christ. We have other prophets that have led the church, since his death. Our current Prophet and President of the Church is Gordon B. Hinkley. We reviere and respect our prophets and believe that they recieve divine revelation for the Lord as it pertains to us. We DO NOT worship our prophets, not even the ancient prophets. We respect them and admire them and reviere them. Same with the Ancietn Prophets, Moses, Noah, Adam etc...
I think that Most Christians, Don't worship propehts either. Just a s I doubt that Catholics worship the Pope. Christians. worship God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ.
AS I said Josph Smith restored the LDS Church. There are many other Christian Denominations in existance, many of which are much older than the restored LDS church. Joseph Smith is only considered a prophet to members of the LDS Church, The Community of Christ (formerly Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, or RLDS) and other smaller religions, that broke off from the main church.
You can't acccept Joseph Smith, and not accept his teachings and the Church he established.
You can however accept Christ and belong to any Christian church, and still be a Christian. A belief in Joseph Smith does not make you a Christian, A belief in Christ does.
Maybe it seems like I am rambling, but I hope that answers your question.
Edit**
Jospeh Smith did not have "hundreds" of wives, he did have several. None of the wives were 12. The LDS Church no longer practices piligamy and even when it did, it was not acceptable to marry children. That practice was NEVER accepted by the LDS church or by Joseph Smith. Nobody has to believe that he was a prophet, but you should check your facts, before you state your opinion as fact.

Most christian do not accept Joseph Smith as servant of the Lord, like many Jews who do not accept Jessus Christ as their Messiah.
LDS who accept Joseph Smith as Prophet but do not worship him, but were taught by Joseph Smith to worship Jesus Christ.
I am sure Moses would teach the people to worship the Lord rather than him as a prophet of God.

We extremely have confidence Joseph Smith to be a prophet observed as by utilising God, and being a prophet Joseph stood as a witness and testator to the certainty of the living Christ, who reaches out nonetheless to mankind and nonetheless performs miracles, speaks to chosen servants and to all who have confidence. The e book of Mormon is extremely a testomony of Jesus Christ. It stands to help the Bible's witness of the certainty of the Messiah who exchange into and is Jesus of Nazareth. It additionally exhibits the international that God would not overlook any of His toddlers yet recollects each and each united states of america like yet another, and does all in His know-how and potential to ask all men to come back unto Him and obtain His redeeming grace.
