Does this qualify as a "replacement" present? Or should she get a birthday present too? And does this make the guy selfish for taking away the fun of 'her' day to now make it 'their' day? As in people will not so much say "happy birthday" to the gal, but 'congrats' to both?

DON'T use it as a replacement present because if she finds out and there is always that possibility she will go mad how about getting her a birthday present and an engagement ring but keep it until the end of the nite. take her out for her fun day and then at the end of her fun day pop the question. This way nobody will find out until the next day and everyone will be saying happy birthday to her but the next day congrats to you both. or even pop the question the next day as you can then have a fun day twice

Go on and do it. I cannot think of a better birthday present than a marriage proposal from the man you love. The engagement is not usually celebrated year after year so she will still have "her day" on her birthday. If you are really worried about that, get her a birthday present and pick another day for the proposing. Congratulations and the very best of luck to you.

I think the engagement ring should be given on another day. A birthday is a celebration of a person's birth. It seems kinda creepy to celebrate your birth and engagement on the same day. If he were to give a ring no other gift should be needed. It is not selfish of a guy to give a ring of love on any day! Instead it is more of a loving gesture. I wouldn't appreciate getting engaged on my bday, but I am sure some people would like it!

I think proposing to her on her birthday is a fabulous idea and in no way taking away the fun. If anything, it is making the occasion even more special!

Trust me, she has already had several birthdays and will have several more, choosing this day will make it all the more significant and special.

Having you ask for her hand in marriage to spend the rest of her life with you in one of the greatest gifts ever! I would be happy.

I'm sure she won't think twice about the proposal on her birthday.

Now, if you propose without a ring and without a gift....that might spark a little trouble! ;-) Just joking.

Good luck on your proposal!

If I really loved the guy I would be flattered to have him as my birthday present. Any woman who takes a ring and whines is selfish and bound to be a BRIDEZILLA!

No one knows her better than you do. You already know the answer to your question. You know how she will probably react. If you do pop the question on her birthday, get her a birthday gift aside from the ring. I hope all goes well.

Ii dunno, I got engaged on my b-day, it was totally fine with me. I don't place much weight on dates and days, it was the spirit of the occasion that mattered. If it wasn't for other people remembering my b-day, I would never even celebrate it, it's no big deal.

But if your g/f thinks that birthdays are something hugely special, perhaps it's better to propose on a different day.

i'm sorry, but if my boyfriend proposed to me on my birthday, i would be beside myself with excitement! no need for any other gift because he would be my gift and knowing that we were going to spend the rest of our lives together is the gift of a lifetime. some of these girls on here are obviously materialistic and very stuck up to say that they would expect another gift, as well. i say go for it!

is there no other date for you to do it........ ???? after all it is her day. but i wouldn't worry about it. i guess you're pretty sure she'll accept so the happiness will be greater. she might think you stole her day after a week or so. or maybe never! but think of something different......... you give her yourself as a present!! that's not so bad and no t-shirt, CD or anything can replace it

I think it better if it is given on a different day - not a birthday, or Christmas or other holiday.
