T bags are a waste of time. Buy a decent premium loose tea (not anything in a fancy caddy as they've probably been on the shelves for ages) such as Twinings or Taylors of Harrogate.
Use fresh water, a decent china tea pot and a strainer. The arguments about milk before or after both have their plusses but I prefer before.
For a really detailed treatise on making tea George Orwell is hard to beat.

Any good brand will do. I use either a heat proof teapot made of tempered glass, or ceramic. Again basically follow other's directions. I prefer loose, but will use bags if in a real hurry.
The water must be very hot, ideally at boil. Less than that the tea tastes "wierd" sort of half cooked.
I use sugar occasionally cream or lemon. It depends on the kind of tea in the first place!--CJ
P.S. From what I know tesco has the worst of the worst store brand tea. A wonder your throat didn't chafe!!! Sainbury's I hear is far better, but have never tried the stuff! Twinings is the best by far.

Cheaper brands taste crap because that is what they usually are.
They are made with the left over tea dust when better brands are processed.
Dont skip on cost if you want a really good cup of Tea!
Find a better brand Yorkshire,Tetley, P-G Tips etc and always use 'boiling water'
Have the T-bag in the cup ready and as soon as kettle is boiled and switches off. Pour over the bag! Timing is more difficult. It depends whether you like it really strong or not. The longer you leave the bag in the stronger it gets. Never put milk in Tea till it is brewed, and never before adding the water. The tea cannot brew in milk. See how dark the tea is when you remove the bag and when you find 'your' level remember time left and colour!
Good luck and enjoy!!!

Tea making is an art form, to make a really good cuppa takes time and effort and decent tea leaves.
You will need:
1 bone china T pot
bone china T cups
T leaves of a reputable brand
1 T strainer
Milk (type/if/if not optional)
single cream if you prefer.
1 tray
biscuits and/or cake (optional)
Boil the kettle then use a little of the boiled water to warm the pot. discard this when pot nice and warm. put in one level T spoon of T leaves for each serving and 1 for the pot. Re boil kettle and then pour over t leaves. put lid on T pot, put on a cosy and leave to stand for two minutes. take off cosy and T pot lid, give the T a stir, replace lid and cosy, leave to stand for another 2 mins. Put jug of milk, sugar bowl, lemon slices, T cups and T spoons on a tray. Using the T strainer, pour the T through the strainer into the T cups until it just about reaches the top of the cup. Serve with biscuits or cake (optional)

to make a good cuppa you need loose tea, a tea pot, a tea strainer and a tea cosy. but if you want to do it the easy way a good brand of tea bag will still make a decent cuppa. always warm the pot, add 1 bag for each cup + 1 for the pot, add boiling water, cover with tea cosy, leave for 3 Min's, pour and add milk and sugar to taste. or warm the cup add a tea bag add sugar and always the milk last. enjoy.

The best cup of tea is always from my grampy's house.
2 scoops of real tea (typhoo i think) placed in to a huge china tea pot (that is years old) Boiling water poured on left to stand (with cosy on for around 5 mins)
Sugar in first then strain tea so no nasty bits, stir, then add milk.

Well I don't drink tea but maybe tesco brand is no good. I drink coffee. One spoon of Nescafe Blend 37 is definitely the best.

YOU NEED TO HAVE A GOOD TEABAG, THE BRAND I USE IS PG TIPS. OR TETLEY DEPENDING ON WHATS ON OFFER, MAKE SURE YOU PUT FRESH WATER IN THE KETTLE,AS PRE BOILED WATER TENDS TO STEW THE TEA, NEVER PUT THE MILK IN BEFORE THE WATER AS IT WILL NOT BREW RIGHT. LEAVE THE TEABAG IN FOR ABOUT A MINUTE, AND SQUEEZE IT OUT WHEN REMOVING IT, PERFECT TEA EVERY TIME.
