50 for one? you got ripped off. who cares if its police issue or not, as long as the quality is there. mine cost NZ$25 (do the math) and has stood up to the test of time. I got mine from the army surplus store, and the guy down there is surely an escaped SS nazi. he has all the goodies a survivalist could want. so they could be the best bet for purchase. and yes, they are illegal to carry, but the villains dont give a sh!t about the law, as the law only oppresses the law abiding. so why should the law breakers be the only ones to have goodies like these? dont give a sh!t about it if you want one, just be smart with it. but get caught and take the grief.

Shame this isn't a discussion forum, but from above:

"Why should the law breakers be the only ones to have goodies like these?"

They are illegal to carry in public unless you are an ON-DUTY police officer, so anyone else carrying them is BY DEFINITION a law-breaker. How should the rest of us tell the "good" law-breakers from the "bad" law-breakers?

So my advice is: don't buy one. Don't try to buy one. If you are really worried about self-defense, get some pepper-spray.

I think these are classed as offensive weapons, it may be legal for civilians to own them, but they cannot be carried in public.
