SOLID GOLD!!!! Best food company out there! www.solidgoldhealth.com I've seen it improve so many different dogs with several problems, from food allergies, to helping reduce seizures in epileptic dogs. Their Holistique Blends formula is awesome for dogs that have sensitive stomachs, allergies, or weight issues. They use high quality ingredients, NO CORN OR WHEAT, and no chemical preservatives that could cause cancer. They also have a great line of supplements and treats that are healthy, that pets actually LIKE!
My dogs are on it, my cats are on it, and my horses are on their Seameal supplement.
Just my opinion, but Eagle pack is full of too many grains, and I can't remember right now which one it is, but one of them uses rendered pig carcasses for their protein source...YUCK!
EVERYONE... READ YOUR INGREDIENT LABEL, If YOU don't know what it is, or wouldn't eat it, why should your pet? I know I won't eat "Poultry Digest-by-product" (Chicken poop!)

You should get the brand of Iams. My pup is on it right now and its good for her coat heart and the rest of his insides. But remember just dont give your dog the new food...you have to mix her old food with the new food so she doesnt get dierea ( A.K.A. )(water poop) And also make sure its the correct size/age for the dog. It will probably say it on the bag of the dog food. Also I wouldnt get dog food that is in a can. Its to moist so it wont clean the dogs teeth. Hard dog food cleans the dogs teeth because the pieces of food are hard and scratch against their teeth to clean them. Well I have some tips about picking the best answer. But first I must make this clear, Im not telling you this just to get you to pick mine as the best answer im just telling you what not to look for. Dont look for the ones with the most words that dont look like they were in the persons opinion. Because they could of copied it off a website. So look for answers that sound like people put them in there own words. And by the way ive never heard of eagle pack and solid gold dog food. I dont think it would work. Iams(pronounced- I -am-s) (long I short A) It will work trust me.So pick wisley abot your best answer. Good Luck.

Puppy Chow, IAMs, and anything else you can buy at the grocery store is total crap. Please buy something more holistic, that does not contain corn, or by-products. Solid Gold, Innova, Canidae, Flint River Ranch, etc. are all really high quality foods. Go to to compare different brands.

The foods you mentioned are very good because they are holistic foods and they do not contain the chemicals and by- products other dog foods contain. here are more reasons:
William Pollak D.V.M. - "Recent studies have shown processed foods to be a factor in increasing numbers of pets suffering from cancer, arthritis, obesity, dental disease and heart disease. Dull or unhealthy coats are a common problem with cats and dogs and poor diet is usually the cause, according to many veterinarians and breeders. "Dogs, cats and other animals live for years on foods that come out of bags, cans and boxes. But do these foods promote health? If they did, our companion animals would enjoy long, happy lives free of arthritis, hip dysplasia, eye problems, ear problems, fleas and other parasites, gum disease, lick granulomas, thyroid imbalances, skin and coat problems, personality disorders, birth defects, breeding problems, diabetes, cancer and other major and minor illnesses. Before World War II, most North Americans fed their pets raw bones and table scraps. Today, everyone uses convenience foods, and pet food companies are industry giants. Diet isn't the only thing that has changed. So has life expectancy, with the life span of many breeds now less than half what it was two or three decades ago. Skin and coat problems are so common that we accept them as unavoidable, and today's vets routinely treat conditions that used to be unusual or even rare
"The food your animal eats should provide all of the nutritional components which are necessary for all organs and systems of a healthy body to perform in harmonious unison. A properly functioning body does an amazing job at preventing disease and healing itself, and to do this it requires the energies and nutrients of a well-balanced diet. In terms of finding the proper diet for our companions, this means learning to look beyond our own needs, opinions, and agendas to address the natural needs of the animals that we caretake. The business of selling pet food at times seems to be focused more on what appeals to animal guardians than on the dietary needs of pets.

Our puppies are weaned to Eukanuba Small Breed Puppy Food. We feed an eight week puppy about 1/4 cup, moistened with warm water, three times per day. We switch to twice a day at about 5 months, and feed about 1/3 cup for breakfast, and about 1/3 to 1/2 cup for dinner -adjust for weight control. And we give small snacks during the day - read the section below about enthusiastic crate training. Our adults are eating "Chicken Soup for a Dog Lover's Soul".

I now use Natural Balance Ultra Premium Formula for Dogs after my dog had an allergic reaction to Beneful.
First, she was on Purina Dog Chow (from Sam's). One of those 55lbs bags for $15. We switched when our dog was chronically sick with a uti.
Second, she was on Trader Joe's brand dog food "lite" with lamb. I believe it was 15lbs bag for $11. We switched when we moved out of an area that carried this brand.
We then tried Beneful from Target. I believe a 22lbs bag for $15. We switched when she seemed to be allergic to it. She was started shaking her head all the time, for no reason.
Now she's on Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Ultra Premium Formula for Dogs. 35lbs bag for $35.

When my pups were young, my vet suggested Science Diet. They are both 4 years old now and extremely healthy.
There are other good foods out - even suggestions on how to make your own.
Try to stay away from the junk fillers foods they arent' very good. I understand for puppies lamb and rice are really good. One thing I did learn, whatever the food - keep them on it -- and don't feed them any "human" food... They have funny stomachs...

My puppy has started out on Puppy Chow but she doesn't seem to care for it at all. So I am in the process of switching her to Science Diet.
