Oh, hell no!!! My mother in law IS handicapped, and I cannot believe the selfish pigs who use the spaces when they are able-bodied. They have nice stiff fines here for that OFFENSE, and I am glad!!!
A placard or special plates are required to use those spaces, you cannot just "pretend" to be handicapped. And the handicapped individual has to be in the vehicle for the plates or placard to be valid.

I am handicapped and have legitimate handicapped plates. But if the pain is not too severe I will leave the space for someone who may be worse off than I. But that leaves me open to a lot of really rude comments. People get upset when I park in a non-handicapped space that is relatively close to where I want to be. I do not look handicapped. Many people with degenerative spine disorders do not. But it sure irritates the crap out of me to see a 25 year old putting up a handicapped sign in their Corvette then hopping out and strolling briskly to the store. Heck, I couldn't even get out of a Corvette!!!

I would never knowingly park in a handicapped space unless I had someone in the car who was legitimately handicapped and we had a proper permit. Neither would I pretend to be handicapped. Both ideas are unthinkable, and that's being honest. And whenever I see someone park in a handicapped space that doesn't have a permit and obviously isn't handicapped, I let them know that I will phone the police and report them if they don't move.

It's handicapped people like me that you are putting at risk by parking there. Even before I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis I wouldn't even think about parking in a place specified for handicapped people. That is just WRONG! Plus if you don't want your car to be towed then that is another reason to NOT park there. And I do have a legal visible placard that indicates me being handicapped.
I think you need to grow up and start appreciating the law.

In order to be able to park legally in a handicapped parking space, one must be able to prove that they cannot walk more than 500 ft.
If one is parking and pretending to be handicapped, all a handicapped person need do is get their liscense plate number and call the Hwy patrol in their state. The person will then have to prove they are 'truly' handicapped

Neither. I would not do either. I am blessed to have legs and good health to walk. I don't need to park close when I have two perfectly good legs too walk with. I am not going to be "The boy who cried wolf", just to get a close spot. There are people who really deserve it. I know people who look fine, but have cancer and don't have the endurance to walk long distances who need those spots. I work in the medical field. Even those people will not use the handicapped spots because they don't want to be handicapped. It amazes me how people use them when they don't need it and vice-versa. Tells you something doesn't it........

Never. My Mother is handicapped and I actually could park in those spaces because we have the handicapped tag from the dmv. But I only use it when I'm with her. I never use it for my own personal gain. Anyone who does is the lowest scum of the earth.

And if a handicapped human being were perfect in the back of, the position would he/she have parked? Sorry, she occupied the gap, which she had no perfect to do. No excuses allowed, and believe me, the court has heard all of them. it really is a valid cost ticket and she or he might want to pay it. She must have stopped further away, like different able-bodied human beings do, and the lot of you ought to have walked the better few yards. And if there have been no different parking spots, which in various of circumstances purely occurs at Christmas, she might want to have dropped you off on the aspect highway, or at a loading zone, I guess there became actually one of those.

I have a box of stickers in my car that read "laziness is not a handicap". I put them on car windows when I see someone park in a handicapped space.

I have only parked in the handicap spot when I had someone with me that had a tag. I don't park there because there are others that need that space and I can walk.
