I'm in Canada, going to the US, don't know if that makes a difference. Will they let me cross if it's not paid?

From Additional Details here it seems you are Canuck and you skipped out on a US State's court date or after conviction? In that case if information of it has been entered into the US Federal database you can be arrested at the border. If it was only a matter of your getting a traffic ticket (no muffler) from a State or Local police officer that you did not pay it probably would not show. But if you are stopped again for a traffic violation within the same state you are likely to be caught and held until you post bond.

the thing is, that everything is on the internet now and it will likley come up if they enter you into the computer. So you may want to pay it.
