I agree about our Constitution. This nation was the first nation in the modern world where it was openly acknowledged that no one possesses perfect foresight, so our body of laws had to be flexible enough to accommodate future Americans and their future issues, but solid enough and based upon firm enough principles that they would not be changed on a whim. The principles upon which our system was founded were (and are) so cutting edge that they have become a model for many countries where liberty and equality are at issue. Under the ideals upon which this country was founded, it is easy to see why we are held up as the model against which other countries measure themselves. However, the ideal and the reality sometimes are just far enough apart to reflect duplicity to those looking for c hinks in our collective armor. Suffice it to say that ours is the most effective system operating for most intents and purposes, inconsistencies notwithstanding.

USA the Greatest?
yes, in the following sectors:
1. International bullying- Iraq, Afghan, Korea, Vietnam.....
2. International debt- biggest debtor on the planet, TRILLIONS of dollars
3. UN dues defaulter
4. Meddler in internal affairs of other countries
5. Acting as International police- who-ever gave them the right to?
6. Calling itself greatest
7. Insulting others
8. Human rights violations within and out side it's borders
9. Lying to it's own citizens and defence troops- eg WMDs in Iraq
10. Usurping other's assets- Oil in Iraq, Libya, Kuwait,....
11. Assassinating and trying to assassinate leaders of other countries- Cuba, dozens of African & South American countries....
12. Self Attacks- eg WTC [9/11]
In a nut shell, the virtues of the people and Nature within the geographical boundaries of USA have been much repeatedly and consistently undermined by the actions or inactions of it's Government, thus soiling it's reputation and reducing the Greatness it otherwise could have achieved.

I don't know where all the people answering this question are from. However, for those of you who live in the US and don't agree that America is the greatest nation in the world I have only one question for you. What are you still doing here?

I do think we are still a great nation! This nation's poor are the envy of the world. Food is dirt cheap if you are not fussy. Rush Limbaugh one addressed that claim when someone claimed she had to eat dog food.. He brought in a loaf of bread and peanut butter. It came out to pennies a meal. The dog food was much more expensive! Add to that all our poverty programs. Don't get me wrong: the people who don't want to work have sucky lives. They would be much better off getting a job and paying their bills like everyone else.

No But we have the Greatest HPYE. We would be one of the greatest If we struck firm to the expressed idea of Freedom for All; not just the rich who can afford Lawyers.

Definitely the greatest nation between Mexico and Canada for sure. Beyond that...lol. The ideals of life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness and justice for all, is the greatest ideal, if it were only true in the U.S. I would totally agree but the reality is, no Nation is better than the other because nations are made up of individual people and no one is better than anyone else. No one.

Second only too Canada! Ha ha, don't call me a commie, I love my country, half these people saying the USA sucks, are too affraid to leave this country because they know the truth, and should understand that in many countries saying your own country sucks would actually get you killed. Canada only gets a slight nod for having better beer and having hockey as the national sport.
