Frontline Plus - kills adult fleas on cat, flea eggs, flea larvae and other adult fleas in the cat's environment. Just be sure to part the hair and get the liquid on the skin so that it works properly.
Using a product like flea powder, flea sprays and flea collars only kill adult fleas on the cat at the time you apply. More than 90% of the fleas in the cat's environment are not on the cat at a given time. Killing the fleas that are on the cat at the moment, only makes more room for the other fleas to hop on later. These other products have little or no residual effect.

Apartment manager here. I've gone to war with the buggers.
You have two choices.
There's the cheap and hard way, and the expensive and easy way.
I'll always stress to take your animal to a quality vet and get it done right. They've got the prescription 'good stuff' that you cannot buy in any pet store. Then hire a good pest control service for the fleas in your house. Make sure you get a good warranty so if the fleas ever come back you can get treated again at no charge. If you rent, talk to your landlord, you might already be under warranty.
Raid and Hartz will hold the line temporarily, but without professional help the fleas will keep coming back. Keep in mind if a flea was the size of a human it could jump over the empire state building. They're perhaps the strongest little basterds on the face of the planet.

Our cat was quite bad for fleas, we found frontline was the best thing we ever tried! It killed 100% of the fleas on the cat and any fleas that were in the house soon disappeared as well. I think you can only get it from a vet and it is more expensive than most methods but it is definitely worth the extra money - it's fool proof!

the best way is to flea bomb the house and shampoo the cat in rid of flea shampoo from a pet store or walmart. trust me both work but since the cat already has fleas its already likely its throughout your house without u knowing it and they make babies quite often is flea bombing is very much recommended just as well as the shampooing and also for a week or two put a frontline flea collar on it to have extra protection against them

Go to the vet's and they will give you a very effective treatment that you drop on to the back of their neck. It gets absorbed into the cats bloodstream henceforth when the fleas bite the cat the venom is ingested by the flea.

Johnsons 4Fleas, works a miracle. It is a small pill you put in their favorite food. It starts working within 15 mins and in 24 hrs all fleas, eggs. and larvae on the cat are destroyed. Of course, you will need use something on your carpet and furniture if you have an infestation or they will just get back onto the cat.

FRONTLINE PLUS. As it has already been stated, it kills fleas and the eggs/larvae. It not only kills the fleas already existing on the pet, but new ones to climb on will also be killed by the Frontline. It also kills ticks and their eggs!!
You may want to check at your local animal shelter or humane society- the one I work at sells Frontline WAY cheaper than any vet or pet store in the area!! For cats, it's $25 for three months! :o)
Sidenote: HARTZ products and FLEA COLLARS have a chemical in them that is TOXIC to animals and children!

My cat went to the vet and the vet sprayed her and then rubbed it in. I know you can buy a spray to do this. I do not like flea collars as a cat can get strangled if the collar gets caught in a tree.
