I have two wild black ducks that we rescued a few years ago and are too tame to release. The mother is just your standard duck who eats lettuce and seed and snails, but the daughter is plain weird. She hunts down mice, breaks their necks, then throws them in the pond and shakes them until she breaks them apart and eats them! She will attack anything, snakes, lizards, she even killed an unlucky dove caught in the pen once. Has anyone got a precedent for this very strange duck behaviour?

We take care of 6 Peking ducks and over a dozen chickens of various types. They all like to kill mice. The ducks will grab the mice and snap their necks and eat them (usually whole.) The chickens are worse...they chase and peck and peck and peck the mice. It's not unheard of. Our avian vet says that it's nothing to worry about.

It's not that uncommon. Ducks can be very aggressive. We had one years ago we had to get rid of because it finally started attacking people walking down the street.

Maybe it is inbred?

That does cause aggressive tendencies in animals...

Some ducks are just that way though. I was chased by a rooster for almost a mile when I was little!

Birds are weird sometimes.

the real war isn't between East and West, or capitalism and communism, yet between training and propaganda everywhere, from the common way of existence to the propaganda equipment, there is consistent tension to make human beings experience that they are helpless, that the sole place they are in a position to have is to ratify judgements and to consume He who dictates and formulates the words and words we use, he who's grasp of the press and radio, is grasp of the strategies. Repeat without delay your assumptions and proposals, shrink the possibility for talking dissent and opposition. that's the formula for political conditioning of the masses. Our government has saved us in a perpetual state of concern -- saved us in a non-supply up stampede of patriotic fervor -- with the cry of grave nationwide emergency. consistently there has been some undesirable evil at homestead or some colossal foreign places ability that became going to gobble us up if we did no longer blindly rally in the back of it via furnishing the exorbitant money demanded. yet, looking back, those mess ups look by no ability to have occurred, look by no ability to have been somewhat real. -ordinary Douglas MacArthur
