Sorry for such a silly question, but I have recently started studying with a sister from the local Kingdom Hall for the past few weeks, and I have noticed that all of the women in the congregation wear dresses or skirts only (no pants or slack) and the men wear only suits. Is there a policy, because when I first started attending the meetings, I was wearing slacks, but recently switched to skirts so I wouldn't be an oddball. If there is a policy, what about winters? It gets really cold in my area sometimes, and dresses/skirts just don't cut it. Thank you!

Haha, not a silly question. Ive been studying for a year and a half now -- women wear skirts out of respect. It does get quite chilly here in Canada too - but just wear thicker stockings.. after all, the Kingdom Hall is heated ;-) Someone mentioned they have never seen any female witness wear pants, but the truth is we do, very often too.. we wear pants on social and casual events.. It's only while at meetings, studies, service or by choice on other occasions that we are expected to wear skirts.

There isnt a policy. Its just we feel its appropriate to dress up for meetings. I used to be Catholic and people would walk into church wearing their jeans or shorts and tanks tops. Not really giving respect at all. What I see dressing up is giving that respect. Sure you can wear jeans and what not to the meetings, like if youre running late or something and ya you can wear pants. No big deal. But like you said most wear the dresses and skirt so its easy to feel like the odd one out. And in the winter...well we sick it out and be tough lol. Well go out in service for hours and walk around in skirts. You just have to learn some of the girls tricks on keeping warm. I learned about wearing long underware under you skirt. I always wear long skirts and tights socks and boots lol It gets cold

No, this is not a silly question. As was brought out, the skirts/dresses is out of respect for Jehovah. What I do in the winter is wear tights; I get them at the dollar store and they are pretty warm. Also remember that the Kingdom Hall is heated, so its only the little bit of time in the parking lot, etc. that you would be cold.

Hello:Jehovah's Witness adorn themselves in well-arranged dress, with modesty and soundnesss of mind, not with styles of hair braiding and gold or pearls or very expensive garb. 1 Timothy 2:9 In the winter wearing tights, that are designed for the cold are acceptable- I sometimes wear nylons and tights. If there is snow on the ground I will sometimes add a pair of socks to wear with the tights, nylons and boots. Wearing tights under long skirts, some of the sisters wear pants under the skirts, especially out in field service. As it can be very cold going from door to door. Welcome to the congregation, and I hope Jehovah brings you wisdom and quidence

even in the winter months we as Jehovah Witnesses wear a dress or skirt and blouse. you can wear a winter coat and boots. yes winter is cold and we get cold just like anyone else. we don't wear pants out of respect to Jehovah God and Jesus Christ. yes brothers (men) do wear suits. we do wear pants but not at meetings, I am talking about woman. in the summer months after the meeting or service, I do wear shorts with a blouse. looking forward to having you as a sister.

Ask the sister you study with.

Look to the way the friends are dressed at the hall. Look at the mode of dress in the magazines. Don't be afraid to ask these questions of the sisters they will be understanding and helpful.

I believe there is no policy, but there is a preference.
Nobody should say anything if you show up in slacks ....just know you'll be in the minority.
Its the information that should be emphasized, not the way the audience is dressed ....as long as its respectful.

I really like long skirts. My bf wants the brief ones. So my wardrobe is stuffed w/ 1/2 and 1/2.

i suggest asking them,,,, in the meantime continue to wear skirts/dresses , you always can get some thick stockings, tights,(like the dancers wear) to wear, these will actually keep you warmer then pants, i personally have never seen a Jehovah's witness female (that i knew she was one)wear pants, even outside of services ,,,,
