It's true that all the Protestant denominations go back to the Catholic Church ultimately. So in this sense, it could be said that the Catholic Church is their mother. In my opinion, Protestants have a right to disagree with the Catholic Church but should not say that Catholics aren't real Christians, and they should love and respect Catholics as much as any other Christian.

Hi Midge you are correct in this, the Catholic Church is founded on the `Rock` who is Peter the first Apostle and appointed by Jesus to spread His Gospel of Good News.
this young church spread across the known world and is also called the Universal church.
Jesus said that He would be with this church until the end of time and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it, He said this of no other church, and scripture bears this out.
this church has it`s first roots in Antioch and Ephesus and all the areas that the Apostles including Paul brought the good news.
all the Luther`s and Calvins and King Henry`s will never change this dogmatic truth.

What is the exact scripture that states that the catholic church is the mother church in the King James Version of the Holy Bible.

In fact your statement is false and a lie. Correct.

John 8:44 Ye are of YOUR FATHER the devil, and the lusts of YOUR FATHER ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Actually. The Roman Orthodox church is the Mother Church if we're talking the dawn of organized Christian religion.

Midge...

Um, what are you talking about? You are taking that out of context. It is actually talking about you mom...not your church.

Proverbs 23: 21For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty, and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

22Hearken to your father, who begot you, and despise not your mother when she is old.

23Buy the truth and sell it not; not only that, but also get discernment and judgment, instruction and understanding.

The Catholic Church is the Church founded by Christ.

St. Peter, the first bishop of Rome, was followed by Linus* mentioned in the letters of St. Paul (*second Bishop of Rome and leader of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church),

Thou art Peter (rock) and upon this rock I shall build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
And to you do I give the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.

Whatsoever you bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatsoever you loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven.

First, the Catholic church is NOT the mother church and second, you're understanding of that verse is wrong. The mother discussed in that verse is your mom, my mom, it is all (human) mothers.

No, but it is hardly relevant, as Proverbs was around long before the church was.
