There is a compound in cranberry juice called Tannin which helps prevent the bacteria that causes bladder infections from clinging to the walls of the bladder. Cranberry juice is actually more effective for the prevention of bladder infections since it doesn't actually kill the bacteria. Your best bet to treat a bladder infection is to flush your system with water and to use cranberry juice as a preventative measure.

Cranberry is a better preventative but because it is highly acidic and bacteria does not like acid it can help with an infection. Unfortunatly though both bacteria and acid can dammage the lining of the bladder causing the condition called Interstitial Cystitis. http://icandme.9.forumer.com/index.php? So it is important to treat an infection and be careful about dammaging the bladder since Interstitial Cystitis can get to be very painful and disabling to some.

it's actually better as a preventative than treating an actual infection.....it prevents the bacteria from clinging to the bladder walls.....a lot of people use it to treat infections, but they have never been able to prove its effectiveness in studies......in fact, if you have an infection, anything acidic can irritate the bladder further, so it's best to flush it out with plain water
