I have a six month old Doberman, His ears were cropped at ten weeks, been taping since. His adult teeth have come in so I am seeing huge results lately, however I have not owned a dobe since I was a kid and do not know if the ears are supposed to stand at all times, or is it more of a relaxed down/ alert up thing? This will help me guage how far along I am.

Dobe ears should stand erect unlesss they are flattened down against the head, which is usually as a sign of fear, fatigue, or aggression.

You really shouldn't have stopped taping them if they weren't standing up all the time. That's what keeps the cartilidge in the proper position while it develops. That's why after 2 months old or so you can't get them cropped...the cartilidge has developed. Our doberman's ears are up 100% of thetime, unless she's in trouble. Then she lays them back against her head. Her ears have been standing since about 3 weeks after her surgery. She had it done at about 7 weeks old, and she's 7 months old now.

Is the min pin a true min pin? If so, is he AKC or other registry papered? What are your plans for him? This is taken from the AKC standard for Miniature Pinscher - "Ears set high, standing erect from base to tip. May be cropped or uncropped." The ears need to be cropped at an early age, before 8 weeks. If your dog is older than this, you may cause more harm than good if you crop. Please check out the Miniature Pinscher Club of America's website or the AKC website. Both will help in your decision. Good Luck.

I used to own a dobie and we didn't crop his ears until almost 6 months. It took about 2 months to stop taping the ears. One ear stood up by itself pretty much right away, but the other took time and worried us for a bit. I wouldn't worry much, just make sure you're taping the ears right, don't stretch them out or anything. Consult your vet and ask him for his opinion, it's hard to give advice without seeing your dog and how you tape the ears.

the dobe ears should stand up at all times but you'll always be able to tell if they're relaxed or perked that doesn't happen in the ear that happens at the base

Its illegal in this country to crop i would expect by 6months he would have sufficient cartlidge to support a crop is it floppy all the time? if it is then perhaps its been a bad crop and not enough taken off.

If hes just a pet love him for what he is and enjoy.......
