Because some people are ignorant and/or arrogant.

It mostly has to do with the fact that a lo of people have deep held stereotypes about paganistic religions. it goes back to the Bible mostly, where I believe a passage says burn the witch. Witch has come to be associated with any and all paganistic, and neo-pagan religions.

This hatred is then justified by saying that you worship the devil, the epitome of evil. This by association allows you, and all pagans to be considered evil. It really is a similer mindset as the one that Hitler used against Jews. Once a people, or a religion is seen as evil, then people are a lot less likely to have problems with treating the harshly, or cruelly.

Best of Luck with those that are saying that to you,

People fear what they don't understand. They think anything that has to do with earth worship is a bad thing, that magic itself is something to be feared. They don't understand that most pagans don't do acctual witchcraft and are only about the earth and the forces of the earth. Also, most people who believe in only one God can't understand the concept of there being more then one God who can help them in life. I think the best way to get around this is to explain what you believe to people who ask questions. Get some of the bad stuff out of the way first, then open yourself up to answer questions that you may not have thought about.

It's simple. Some religions focus heavily on the number of followers. These religions wouldn't want their followers to convert to some other religion, such as paganism. Therefore, they teach their followers that other religions are Satanic.

Cluelessness.

I won't call you a Satanist, though. Spent too many years as an uber-feminist Dianic Wiccan to know better. :)

Christianity (and most monotheistic religions, for that matter) tends to hold the idea that anything not of it's God must be of his adversary, Satan. Therefore, if you're following a religion other than theirs, it *must* (in their eyes) be worshipping Satan in some form or another.

Because it is fun for them. I heard it all the time at my last job. I always asked them how I could worship something I didn't believe in (i.e. Satan) and they never had an answer. Shocking.

Because their bible says 'if you're not with us, you're against us' - so that means if you don't worship their god, you must worship their devil.

I'm an atheist, and I hear the same thing all the time.

Because they don't want to separate the two, as that would mean they are wrong. Leave them to it.
