Pay attention to some of the daytime TV shows. Some of the best looking women have a gap. It is certainly not a detracting feature unless it's big enough for an extra tooth to fit in there.

That's not nice! I have a gap between my front teeth because I have braces and an expander.

I don't care about it... I had it and yeah I got weird looks but I talked fine and as long as I didn't laugh with my mouth wide open, it wasn't a problem. My good friends didn't have a problem with it... and now I"m getting braces for it and it's helped.
Why should the way people's teeth look matter?

I used to think they were poor, but as I got older I realize its smarter not to mess with your natural teeth. Too many dental procedures cause problems.
