In this situation it's not about putting up your fist and having a fair fight. This is about survival and stopping a severe attack.
First off if the guy is a lot bigger than me then fairness is out the window. Since hitting the guy may only making matter you need to increase your level of power. This assumed you have nothing on you that would help (no weapon).
Surprisingly walking down any street there may be a number of dangerous objects within grasp. You have to scan around you quickly and make a decision.
Some quick ideas that might come to view, snap off a fencepost, grab a rock (big one), trashcan, trashcan lid, anything in the trashcan. Street with small buildings, find the nearest window and break it… use the glass to carve “always open” in the attackers *** (he'll find it useful in prison). Still haven't found anything… look at the cars on the street beside you that are parked. Older car hub caps pull off two and attacking like a dice-o-mactic. By the way don't break car glass (unless you see something inside that you can use) cars use safety glass that will not break into sharp glass knifes.
Never worry about causing damage to someone's property (that can always be replaced). Concentrate on stunning or debilitating the attacker. Grab your girlfriend and run. Since the attacker was a lot larger it's doubtful he'll be able to keep up with you.

You lkeave her, she gets assaulted, you fight the guy you get killed or badly hurt. Solution is for both of you scream at the top of your voices. This will attract attention and help or scare the guy away.

Why would you leave your girl for a guy? I would want my guy to atleast stick up for me. If he won't then what's the point of having a boyfriend!
