Over a year ago the mother of my 2 son's decided that she did not want to me a mother anymore. She moved far away leaving me as sole care provider for our 3 and 4 year old sons. She recently passed away. She named my youngest son, would not have been my choice. Would I be a bad person if I legally changed his name to my preference?

changing their names at this point in their life would really confuse them. They are already 3 and 4, and they are learning who they are. So to them, their name is a big part of who they are. Keep their names the same, for your kids sake.

I know it was pretty mean of her to leave you, but she's dead and she did name your son. Personally, I think you should leave it. If you really feel like it's the right thing to do than OK.

No. My step-dad's ex-wife did the same thing only she didn't die. She left them over 7 yrs. ago (9yr. old boy & 11 yr old girl) & never looked back. She named the boy Timothy Michael which my step-dad can't stand, so he's always called him Michael. We all do. Timothy is for school records only.

Personal choice.. personally, I think it shold be left alone. But regardless, it does not make you a bad person if you decide to change it!

I don't think so..he is young enough to get used to the new name. Perhaps keep his original name as a middle name in case.

i dont think it would be horrible to change his name- but i do think you should keep his first name now as a middle name. good luck with whatever you decide to do!
