hang out with their mouth open? she doesn't seem to be stressed out, not hot, not cold, just her mouth is open, not panting etc. she is 14 years old and the vet x-rayed her lungs the last time she did this and they were fine, just that she was probably stressed out i'm confused

My cat is about 16 years old and hangs her tongue out sometimes. I've never caught her with her mouth all the way open though.

all cats have unique quirks that makes each cat special in their own way.
I have a cat that has a cowlick in the middle of his back, as if he were someones Xmas wish of a cat ornament that came to life.
I've got a 27 year old male that snores (he didn't start to snore till he was 15).
My best friend has a cat that likes to sit on her shoulder when ever they go driving around on errands, the cat won't jump out the window, but likes to stick its fuzzy head out and watch the scenery like a dog would - it meows at every thing that catches its curiosity, its hilarious to watch.
cheers babe

cats have scent glands on both sides of their noses, right near their mouth. If she smells something different, she will keep her mouth open until those glands absorb the smell.

I used to have 2 of those - eating tinsel , chasing one yet another up the tree.day after in the present day the tinsel popping out the different end . Then Christmas morning bounce in the empty containers and play cover and seek for. I nonetheless have been given one now 10 years old the different one is resting peacefully in the backyard after 17 years of giving us limitless exhilaration and extraordinary.

One of mine does on occasion. She's 14 too. I've noticed it seems to be stress that causes her to do it. But she doesn't do it every time she's stressed.
Our dog passed away last week so I probably won't see it as much now.

One of my kittens does that after she sniffs me. I think she's just too lazy to close it back up! =P
I don't think it's something to worry about. Especially if your vet looked her over and could find nothing wrong with her. Just sit back and love your kitty - open mouth and all. =)

lol. yes i've seen my cat do this several times..and it looked like she was disgusted with something.
i looked in some books and online, and it turns out cats do that to absorb a smell more and smell it deeper.
go figure.

If she's 14, and otherwise healthy, I wouldn't stress over it. Enjoy her!!
