the beast represented the evil within everyone, that is what destroyed them, that is what killed piggy and simon, and that ruined their society as a democracy, that is why they turned to barbarianism, all it took was a little time away from society

I believe that's in regards to the kids being afraid of each other. The book was about the kids turning into their animalistic selves when removed from society. The person stating the quote is referring to the fact that there is no monster in the logical sense, but there is the monster that is the animalistic side of the kids and there is fear because of it.
