Okay, so maybe the title sounds harsh lol. I was just wondering how much money these people make with show dogs? I am looking to buy an english bulldog and they are absolutely adorable but come with a very large price tag! lol I just wanted a pet...not an AKC champion

I didn't ask this question to have people be rude. I personally think the sport of showing dogs is absolutely ridiculous. Putting a dog up on show for your own amusement. It's pathetic really. I was just curious how much you made doing it....heres a hint...if you don't make any money on it...don't do it! ROFL you lose thousands of dollars on litters of puppies....for what? Maybe someday they will put you in the history books for a little dog show. I never said the dogs should be cheap and I've done my research on the breed. So please don't be so rude.

As a dog breed becomes more popular prices go up and quality goes down. Also these dogs need lots of help when whelping which contributes to the cost.If you do not want to spend a lot of money you should try looking into Bulldog rescue although it is not too often they will have puppies, maybe young dogs.
What the show people make depends on how well known they are and how often there are wins.

ROFLMAO!!!

Ya gotta be kiddin!!! I WORK so that I can afford my show dog hobby!

EBD's are bred by AI and are c-sectioned as well. They also need to be health tested for numerous things. It can cost several thousand dollars to have a litter of 2-4 puppies. WHY do you think they should be cheap? How much do you expect a breeder to lose on a litter, they are already in the hole thousands from finishing their dogs.

The most important reason from buying from a good breeder is the health of the puppy, especially with this breed that is so prone to many health problems. Sure, you can find a cheaper one, but you may end up paying alot of money to your Vet! The fact that it will look like it is suppose to is a bonus!

Making money....STILL laughing!!!

It costs me $350-400 for a 3 day show, with only 2 dogs, including hotel/gas/food. And they don't finish in a weekend either. In my breed competition is tough and it can take many weekends to finish a dog.

And some people special their dogs, advertise them, and send them with a handler!

LMAO!!!

Make money!!!

Ok by the time you take out your travelling expenses your show entries to campaign your dog, then the time spent researching a compatable stud dog THEN the health tests required to ensure no offspring will have any breed related ailments, THEN the cost of rearing puppies and vets bills etc to answer your question lol reputable breeders are lucky to even recoup any of their costs!

Do you mean a british bulldog? they are notorious for problems both mating and whelping and almost always require a c section as they cant give birth naturally and usually only have small litters so can be hard to come by which explains the high price tag.

the price from a good breeder is usually fair, they belong to a group which has bylaws on the dogs standards. Now a pet store or puppy mill will give you a better price, but not as good of dog. The price of an akc champion is the same for all of us,as everyone buys a puppy,if you want to show you pay the handler all there expensive, show fee,etc

My kids are 4th generation show dog owner / handlers, and I informed them at a very early age not to give up their day jobs.
Dog owners spend money, they do not make money. It is that simple. I would need to get the puppy's weight in diamonds before I recouped what is invested in the dogs.
When buying a "breed specific" puppy, buying from a show home is far more about the health and temperament screening that goes into their dogs than it is about buying a future Champion.
(the show quality pups were probably spoken for long before the litter was born anyways)

If your interested in a low priced bulldog try a local bulldog rescue in your area or http://www.petfinder.com/ which is a great tool for finding the type of dog your looking for. Unfortunately bulldogs too end up in rescue No breed is immune to irresponsible owners

Most dog show people are making money on the pimping of thier dogs. Not trying to make ya'll mad, i just see it as that. I think that is it's own world and it has a lot of people who believe in it, which allows for the money to pour in.
