As the Puerto Rican that I am "mami" is the sweet way to say sweet heart, darling, butter cup, etc, but also is the lovely way we call our mothers. Why don't you call him "papi chulo" or "chuleria de mami"? Means like my darling or my sweet heart.

It is absolutely a term of endearment. (You can call him Papi in return.) It is a way of saying "sweetie" or "honey." If the kin aspect of it seems weird, think of when an English speaker uses "baby" - that ain't weird?

By the way, I'm sure you've heard any R&B songs with the words, "Sweet Momma" in them, right? Same thing.

Yes, it is a sweet term. He sounds lovely

My husband is French and he calls Me Chou Chou - it means sweet cream filled donut in French "sweety" loosely translated - I know he is not calling me donut

Puerto Rican men (at least most of them) are well endowed, and are good in bed- so I've heard. (grining)
