It has been said that love conquers all. I had much the same problem, but time, determination and love saw me thru. Unless you're a total a**hole, you should get passed this. You and the GF have to do what's best for you and not the father. It can be hard, but if this is a true relationship, you should focus on it, and not whats around it.

First, I do not oppose gay marriage. Let freedom reign, in every sense of the words. But there is much wrong with your hypothetical world, although the underlying argument is a good one, and that is what matters. I know you are limited to a small amount of space, but there is much you could do to improve your story. Laboratories do not just appear, how did birth occur before this? Was it a duty to be performed like the military, a "suck it up for your country" kind of thing? And, BTW the bible is quite ambiguous on the whole sexuality thing, and the religious right only spews forth the messages that support what they believe. David's story in the bible leaves the possibility very open.

Hard to give advice if you don't say why he doesn't like you.

Are you of a different race, religion or economic class?

Do you chew with your mouth open?

Do you have a good job with lots of room for promotions? (Junior Data Base Administrator, for instance, NOT towel crew leader at the car wash.)

Love is fine, but if you don't have enough money you will have to sponge off someone, which will make you less of a man in her and her father's eyes.

If it is a race, religion or class problem, I can't help, because you can't change that. If he doesn't think you can support her, sign up for a night class in something hard that pays well and prove to him you have what it takes. Learn to spell, too; that always impresses us old folks.

Consider postponing the marriage for the time being. It's unclear that the father's objections are- is it a cultural, religious or race issue? I think she needs to enlist the help of her mother, siblings and other relatives.

If you love her and she loves you and you are old enough, go for it. Life is too short. Be happy!

you don't have to marry. just move in with your girlfriend (if you haven't), I think that would be enough, and you won't need a ceremony with flowers and drunken friends.
