Support. Conversation. News from home. It depends on how well you know the soldier or whether this is just general support to all of them.

If you're sending stuff, though -- my bro served for 8 or 9 months in the Persien Gulf (Navy mech.) and said that what he needed most was socks. Socks, paperback books, and snacks.

You should actually write a book called "Letter to a Soldier". It sounds soo catchy!
But anyways tell the soldier that you support him/her for doing what he/she is doing. Just make him/ her feel good.

We love you, miss you and respect you. Keep your spirits up and know that you will come home to a lot of people that want to show you a lot of love.

Anything, they are just so happy to read about anything. Just what you have done, whats happening in eastenders, total drivel. They just want something to lose themselves in so they can forget for a moment what they are actually doing.
send him some pictures too, of anything!

well, first i'd say - thanks, we're behind you. stay safe and Godspeed.
then cahtter about sports, local news, things like that. i'd include a fun newspaper or magazine article too.

they love real mail - not email but a letter they can holdi n their hands and "own".
