Jewish people omit the O from GOD out of respect.
If there is profanity mentioned or any disrespect it is not near or around the word GOD hence the spelling G-D.They cannot destroy the word GOD or any holy books so they must be buried.

It is a sign of respect that stems from the hebrew that God's name is the name not spoken.

The word God with a capital "G" is a pronoun for a specific god the one of Abraham. God with a lowercase "g" is a pronoun for any other refered to as god or a god.

Since The God of Israel is the only one who gets the capital "G" spelling as an additional sign of respect some delete the "O" from the spelling to assure that the name is still the name not said.

God Is a title. Jesus said at MATTHEW 6:9, You muist pray, then, this way: Our father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified.
Exodus 9:16 to have my name declared in the earth.
Proverbs 18:10 name of Jehovah a strong tower

Isaiah 12:4 Call upon His name
Jesus said in the book of John chapter 17 verse 26, I have made your name known
Romans 10:13 calls on the name of Jehovah be saved
Exodus 3: 15 Then God said once more to Moses, This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, Jehovah the Goid of your forefathers the God of Abraham, the God of Issac and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This my name to time indefinite, and this is the memorial of me to generatrion after generation.

In the book of Malachi chapter 3 verse 6, For I am Jehovah; I have not changed
Down to our day, Jehovah has not changed.
2Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired of God and benficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness
Romans 15: 4 Reads, For all the things that were written aforetime were written for our instruction, that through our endurance and through the comfort from the Scriptrures we might have hope.
God, Lord are titles. One can see the importance of a name through the scriptures.
You wouldn't want to be called hey you,hey girl hey boy etc.
We are given names, so why wouldn' the one who created all things have a nam
He, Jehovah want to be called by his name.
Look up the scriptures in your own personal Bibles.

The tradition of leaving out the 'o' comes from not wanting to profane the name of God. To profane is to make common, to consider of little worth. While it doesn't matter much on the computer, one would not write the name of God on something that would be thrown away. So, by leaving the 'o' out it is not the complete name. More culturely correct would be to just use HaShem (The Name) instead of G-d.

The Jewish leave the vowel out of Gods name so they dont misuse it in any way or form.
Here's the verse.

Ex 20:7
7 "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

The Jewish in their own teaching decieded that God's name was to sacred to say. But God wants his name to be known. Jesus told us his Father wanted everyone to know his name. But I guess some people missed that chapter.

Jews don't spell out god because they don't believe in destroying anything, like books or writings that include his name. So, instead, they spell god, G-d.
