What can cause a middle-aged female to have trouble urinating? No pain or burning and very full bladder, but could not urinate without "pushing" forcefully. Originally was a light stream, then after pushing, was able to let out a burst of air and then the urine came out...Very weird.

What are some things that can cause this problem and how do I keep this from recurring?

(I do not have medical insurance and am low income, so would prefer to see if there is something I can do, short of paying for a doctor's visit and lab tests, if I can avoid it).

You need to find a free or low cost clinic.
Although it could be related to changes in hormone levels, problems related to a hysterectomy, etc. - and it may not be a significant problem it COULD be serious. There may be a tumor.
I had a tumor that had attached to my bladder and I had problems urinating. Please see a doctor - a specialist (urologist). Even if you have to make payments to the doctor your health is worth it.

It sounds like you have some Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. What that means it the muscles of your bladder, urethra, and pelvic area are not functioning correctly. This can happen for a lot of different reasons.
•Chronic poor posture
•Trauma (fall, auto accident, injury)
•Pelvic organ disease (endometriosis, Irritable bowel syndrome, interstitial cystitis)
•Abdominal or pelvic surgery
•Chronic constipation
•Major stress (remember we sill bring a lot of stress to our pelvic muscles even though we no longer wag a tail)
•Inflammation or infection
•Pregnancy or complicated vaginal delivery
•Repetitive motion injury
Basically if you have had a difficult pregnancy or birth, or high stress, or mixture some things your pelvic muscles can get into a chronic spasm.

This can cause retention (difficulty or in abillity to urinate)

The big thing you need to do is to stop straining "pushing" to urinate. You need to do things to help relax your pelvic muscles. Deep breathing, relaxing, heat and cold on the pevlic muscles, moisture are all big helps.

http://icandme.9.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=6 pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) learning to relax the muscles treatment options symtpoms of pfd and more Multiple self helps.

I hope you feel better soon!

the only thing you can really try is to drink some cranberry juice hard and heavy for a couple days and see if it helps. it doesn't sound like a urinary tract infection though. sounds more like something structural like your urethra or something. give the cranberry juice a try for a day or so and if it doesn't help, get to the doctor right away. urniary problems can cause you to become very sick very quickly, by causing toxins to build up in your system. don't mess around with it.

This could be Fungal infection making bulks of fungus leading to tigting the urethra , this may be right 90% if there is bad smell coming from yoy or you noticed white pieces like white cheese coming with urine .
The other cause may be tighting of urethra due to repeated or difficult delivery .

I'm thinking you may have bladder stones. There are some natural cure/prevention things you could try to dissolve them. Eating lots of watermelon is one. Do an Internet search and I'm sure you will find others.

it may be an infection, what works great is to drink cranberry juice, it has to do with the ph, I had some similar problems and it worked for me, stop eating avocado and banana (I did research and they enhance the acidity or something like that), at the beggining you might not feel the results, but it really works¡

Try finding a clinic that will take payment, or a free clinic. Call your local wefare office, because they might have a program for you. Welfare isn't like it used to be a lot of states have different programs to meet different situations.
