A good curling iron to use would be any that is ceramic plated. I myself use gold n hot irons and you can get them from a number of beauty supply stores. Like PBS or Sally's, hope this helps.

Go to a beauty supply and get a good one. Helen Of Troy from Sally's is OK. Remember it will last longer when you get professional products. And the most important thing about lasting longer is that the thermostat will keep the right temperature. If you don't hold a curl use hairspray first, then try to curl it. Professional curling irons that heat up faster remain hot on the next curl because the hair cools down the iron. Ask a professional hairdresser how to use it right. When long hair is clipped on the ends, then rolled to the roots, by the time the roots are hot the ends are fried. The hair breaks.

The best line of curling iron's in my opinion is the Hot Tools brand. They're the ones that come in the gold color. They're a bit on the pricey side because they're made for "professional" use, but they are so worth the extra bucks. I've had mine for over 5 years now and it hasn't broken on me or anything. They're reliable and long lasting and they curl my hair easily.I use the 1 1/2 inch barrel for large curls but try the 1/4 inch for those pretty spiral curls. Good luck!

One of my friends say that the best to use are tourmaline curling irons. She works with haircare products, and she says that they get the hottest while still protecting your hair.

I use a one inch conair curling iron. They are really affordable and they can make really tight curls.
