looking at the answers here i think a lot of people have not really grabbed the gist of the question too much hatred shown by the obvious rangers fans and too much gloating by the celtic fans.....the answer is celtic started to sing this song before gerry and the pacemakers had their hit it was slightly different than gerrys rendition but after he brought it out celtic fans adopted his version because it was better yes it is a liverpool song but celtic are not the only team to adopt this song ..on a side note to last nights game i want to know why man u fans were singing " we are the billy boys " over the years there has been a great affinity between the fans of these two clubs but as usual some idiots want to try annoy another set of fans by singing a bigoted song congrats to celtic on a great victory pity it was such a crappy match and i hope that 2 british teams from this group advance to the last 16

It's even more confusing as Man U supporters (probably from Surrey) sing "The Blaydon Races". A song all about a running race from Newcastle to Blyadon. Strange!!

I'm sure Gerry Marsden will not be complaining about which set of football fans sing it, he'll be raking in the royalties either way.
