King David. He did some really horrible things. He was quite frankly pretty much a scoundrel. He committed adultery, murder, coveted, lied, he was pretty rotten. But, he repented and he was genuinely sorry for his mistakes. He suffered for them too. He lost his son. He was a man after God's own heart. He had faith. I love the life example of the apostle Paul, but, he was a religious zealot. His humanity was hard to see. David, he was just a sinner trying to make it in the world. He knew his short comings, he loved the Lord, he forged ahead and he struggled with life. David is much more human to me.

I'd have to say that I identify the most with Paul. Before I became a Christian, I was agnostic and practiced a number of different occult/pagan religions. I was extremely angry at God and I persecuted every Christian I knew, trying to convert them to not believing is the one true God. I made fun of people who I considered "holy rollers". I asked Christians questions to supposedly cause doubt about their beliefs, such as "If there was a God, why doesn't he answer my prayers?" or "If there was a God, why doesn't he just stop all the evil in the world?" Like Paul, I probably would have had no problem watching a Christian being stoned because I thought they were so fanatical and needed to be silenced. And like Paul, I had a Damascus road experience that changed my life forever.

Peter and Paul... Peter because I dont know really if I would deny Jesus if I felt my life threatened and sometimes I sink when "walking on the water" but, he also went to Jesus and asked forgiveness for denying and also was the only one with enough faith to attempt to walk on the water.

Paul because he admitted to still sinning Romans 7:14-20 and yet didnt let that get in the way of what he was doing for God.

Paul, because he realized that he was the chiefest of sinners. And in Romans he talks about wanting to do right but failing and not wanting to do wrong but doing it anyway. He says that our nature fights with our will all of the time. Then in Romans 7 & 8 he says the greatest thing. "Who can free us from this deadly lower nature? Thank God, it has been done by Christ Jesus our Lord. For now there is no condemnation awaiting those who are in Christ Jesus." Amen and amen.

Thomas - always having to be shown something before believing it. Paul - I do the things I don't want to do and don't do the things I should. Peter - a little prideful.
