Maybe you are just a loser who would find some excuse fail anyway, so why not pick on your partner who must also be an idiot to put up with you. It's like pigs in a pen, except you're not as smart.

Maybe. Its much easier to blame somebody else for your failure than to accept it yourself. Its projection a little as well; by accusing your partner of faults, it may be because you are subconciously aware of them yourself but cannot 'cope' with confronting them.
However, I do it too to a certain extent. It could be an outburst of stress at studying and you are projecting that frustration out at other people. It also (as silly as it may sound) be a form of procrastination from studying.
