What is the best digital camera ever? I really want one, but i don't know which one is really good. I want one that takes good close up pictures like those glamour shot cameras. Any ideas?

The best digital camera ever costs lots more than $500, but...

Consumer Reports for November 2006 has ranked the Canon Powershot A620 as the best compact digital camera. It is becoming almost a legend for longevity at the top of various consumer lists. It looks like this model has been replaced by the A630, which I would expect to be just as popular. The A640 appears quite similar and shares the "600" series numbering, so I guess it's just another upgraded version of the now-classic A620. It looks pretty much the same except for being a 10 MP camera. The continuous drive is a little slower, but the files are larger, so that's no surprise. I own a few Nikon DSLR's and I'd buy the Canon A630 or A640 for myself.

The A620 was rated about twice as good as any as far a battery life. I hope the A630 and A640 are just as good. Use Energizer e2 LITHIUM batteries and you will be happy with battery life.

With this camera, you will find the memory card is a cute little token of thanks from Canon, but not much more. Buy a 1 GB Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III card. You will NEED the increased capacity and write speed to fully realize the benefits of your camera.

The really nice ones are the single-lens-reflex type cameras such as the Nikon D70 (6.1 Megapixel), the D200 (10+ Megapixel) or the Canon EOS. You can go even more expensive and get professional grade cameras. The sky's the limit on how much you want to spend. The advantage of the SLR's is that what you see through the lens is what you get. The lenses are interchangeable (from fish-eye to telescopic) and there is no "lag" between pushing the button and capturing the image. They have rapid fire for catching action at just the right moment and they can handle many attachments such as flashes, studio strobe systems, macro bellows and lighting rings, etc.

Well there is a few web sites that give you comments from people that bought the cameras. just type in digatal cameras and pick a web site. Personally I have seen that the sony cyber shoots have been given bad reviews. My suggestion is either a cannon or a hp or a kodak

Canon is really good. I have a sony cybershot, but when I zoom in it gets really pixellily so stay away from that one.
