So, our reception is in the same place as the ceremony. We are doing our formal pictures together after the ceremony. Should we even bother with walking out of the church together for people to toss things (flower petals, confetti, etc) or just skip it since we will be turning around and walking right back in? I dont' think we are going to have any kind of bus or anything since we aren't going anywhere and don't want to leave the guests sitting at the reception for a long time.

Just to clarify..we will be walking down the aisle together. I am wondering about walking out of the actual church.

Skip the whole throwing stuff at you crap---in fact, many churches do not allow it anymore!

Honestly, I recommend getting all the pics done before the ceremony unless you are stuck on not letting the groom see the bride till she walks down the aisle. But when my husbands sister got married they waited till after the ceremony to have the pics done and there wasn't enough time during cocktail hour so the photographer kept pulling them out of the reception and they weren't able to enjoy themselves.
BUT....I would definitely walk back down the aisle and let them blow bubbles at you or throw petals. Besides, what are you going to do? Wait at the alter and let the guests leave the church with you standing there? Just take the first walk as a married couple and turn back around and take your pics. It's not a hastle at all.

Do the recession stay by the entrance way and let them throw the rice, confetti, bubbles.. that is part of the ceremony.
Just get someone not in the wedding party to give you 10 mintues and then head back into the Church and take the pixs.. The guests should head over to the reception hall, so they can greet the wedding party when they enter. Have appetizers waiting for them with drinks so they will have something to do while your doing the pixs.

Well...you will walk down the aisle after the Pastor/Priest pronounces you Man and Wife. Walk outside, this will give you a minute alone to smooch and revel in the moment. As people filter out, you can give hugs and say hello to folks. This is also a time to help direct people to go over to the reception site. It will be a good time to hug friends and say hello to family, since you won't have a traditional receiving line.
But, cut it short so the photographer has time to take plenty of pics. :)

A lot of churches don't allow the throwing of flowers, confetti or bird seed even...a lot of times the couple, after the recessional, will go into a waiting room until all of guests have gone and then take pictures inside the church. The guests will be mingling and having cocktail at teh reception before you and your fiance get there...you don't have to worry about them. They won't even see you until you are announced after the reception starts.

Definately do go back up the aisle in some way, shape, or form because it does bring the ceremony to an end and has the feeling of things being complete. I saw a couple in a situation similar to yours who walked all of 25 FEET back up the aisle of a small church before turning around to deal with the pictures.
So walk, run, skip, dance, whatever you want!

You'll want to walk out for people to congratulate you ( a receiving line), then go do the pics, have the reception--eat cake, throw your flowers; then leave with your groom and have people toss silk flowers..it's very pretty

YOU DON'T WALK OUT OF THE CHURCH UNTIL THE PICTURES ARE OVER, THEN YOU HEAD FOR THE RECEPTION, AFTER THAT THEY CAN THROW THINGS AT YOU AS YOU LEAVE. DON'T WANT THEM STANDING OUTSIDE WAITING ON YOU AND NOT KNOWING WHAT THE WEATHER WILL BE.

It would be silly to leave the church if you are going to have the reception in the same place.

Well, its up to you. I think, you would want that experience- maybe you can tweak it just a bit. Say, they throw things as you walk back down the aisle for the first time as husband and wife?

Have them throw the rice as you leave after the reception.
