Yo can not save keg beer. Keg beer is not pasturized like canned or bottled beer and will go bad very quickly. I have seen to many people get sick from trying this stunt. I would suggest going ahead and returning the keg and getting another one or a case. if you want to keep some on hand.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Hmm...I'm surprised that nobody keeps leftover beer.
If you have any 1 or 2 liter soft drink plastic bottles with screw caps, you can empty the contain of the keg into the bottles. Try to do it slow so it does not foam up on you and get the bottles as full as possible. (Don't wait till the next day if you want to save your beer, do it right after the party)
The beer will be good for another week or so if you keep them capped and refrigerated. (Not as bubbly but drinkable )
Better yet, next time just call me if you have a kegger, I'll make sure you won't have to deal with any of this ever again.

I recommend getting a keggerator so you can keep the keg for an indefinite period of time. Once the beer is out of the keg, you've got to drink it. Don't try to save it outside the keg.

What's the rush in returning the keg, do you need the $10.00 deposit back that bad?? Return it when you're done.
The reason you can't empty the keg out into any other container is that the beer needs to stay pressurized to stay fresh. Example:Press the little silver ball on the top of the keg to see what "pressurized" means. I encourage you to look closely.

Any more, you generally can't return it without a little slip of paper saying where you got it, and who put down the deposit on the keg originally. If it's in decent condition, you may consider putting it up on eBay or craigslist. Homebrewers love kegs, and we can always use more.
