She may legitimately not mean anything by it, but body language is stronger than words; and it has the unfortunate disadvantage of selective translation with little recourse for misunderstandings. Once you reach a certain age, sitting on someone's lap means i want "this" closer to "that." If she has a relationship where the definition is clearly laid out as something different, that may be one thing. The average stanger is going to take that as some serious flirting.

Well, if you dont wanna sit on someones lap, you dont have to. the only time you should do it if you are being forced to, if your life is in danger, or the potential for getting seriously injured. Affectionate is more loving and caring, sitting in the lap leans to more of a sexual vibe. Affectionate is more like a kiss or a hug, or a type of caress. I hope i helped.

I'm a bit flirtatious so honestly, wouldn't think twice about it (when I was single). I'd not sit on someone's lap if I weren't interested on some level...back in the day.
But I'm American...we're a bit more "in your face" about these things. I've definitely noticed in England people are much more reserved, so it's probably not acceptable here. It's nice, actually.

With people you know and feel comfy around seems innocent enough but sitting on strangers laps could be misunderstood as a come on and flirty behaviour even if if thats not intended. This could lead you into trouble. Not all guys but some would have their paws all over you as soon as you sat down.Be careful.

Sorry, but that is never innocent [even with Santa it's a bit weird]. If she really thinks there's nothing behind it then she is going to be giving some people the wrong impression. I doubt their wives/girlfriends whatever would see it as just affectionate...

Whether it's "OK" would depend upon your personal comfort level when it comes to sexual modesty. For example, most people think spaghetti-strap tops are "ok," while a few would find them "tramp-ish" and inappropriate.
If she is claiming that it is as harmless and chaste as a handshake or smile, she's wrong. She must know that doing this is extremely flirtatious and sexually aggressive. Is that "ok?" Depends on your upbringing, her marital status, his marital status, etc.
It also depends on HIS comfort level. While many a man would love to have a woman drop into his lap, many others would feel uncomfortable with that, for example if he is in a relationship. If she's doing this impulsively, without asking the man first, assuming he'll like it, then that's not right.

no, and if she came round my area and walked up to a man she didnt know and just sat on his lap, she would not last very long......the men would think she's easy and up for it and the women would just kick off. it wouldn't go down very well anyway.
Makes her sound a bit like she's cheap.
Sorry.

HHmm I think that a guy is going to get the wrong idea as what she is doing is very sexual, and he's going to want more than she is willing to give.
That is NOT being affectionate, it's definately way more than that.
Tell her to watch out for herself and keep an eye on her when she goes out.

It is inappropriate. sitting on a man's lap infers that she is interested in something a bit deeper. whether it is so or not, that is how men view close intimate contact. So do women.
Better to find her own chair.

A bit over the top if you ask me!!! Think that behaviour is a bit forward and could give off the wrong signals to the wrong sort of man
