No that is not true, crimes older than 48 hours are solved all the time. However the first 48 hours are the most important in a case because that is when all the evidence is still fresh witness memories are still fresh and no one has had a chance to get to witness yet.

I think what you are refering to is a "Writ of habeous corpus" sorry about the spelling. That is where you are arrested and the police fail to charge you in 48 hours. A public defender will file a writ of HC and get you released. The writ < its is latin< means produce the body because they havent charged you with a crime

You're confusing statistics
statistically, if an arrest isn't made in 48 hours, its more likely teh crime will remain unsolved for a long time.
It doesn't mean that they will get away.

No it does not work that way. Do you see in the news how people are incarcerated for crimes they committed over 20 years ago? (the case of the rape that happened 29years ago). You cannot get away that easy

Are you confusing this with missing/abducted persons? If they are not found within the first 48 hours the probability of finding them safe/alive drops significantly.

no, often they don't even get all of the reports done in 48 hours.

Some take years go catch, and some get caught on blind luck
